How do I make a landmark?

I feel like an idiot asking this but how do I leave a note to myself over a tile? I've seen it in screenshots of other peoples' games, but I would like to use them too, mainly for marking future cities.

And while I'm asking questions, is there a way to inspect a city before you decide to keep or raze it?

The keyboard shortcut Alt-S (think "S" for Sign) will allow you to place signs. You can also zoom out to the globe view and use the strategy layer to place signs but I find that more cumbersome unless I want to draw lines.

The only way to inspect a city that you don't own is if you have a spy there (vanilla/warlords) or enough espionage points accumulated (BTS)

You can also peek inside an AI city by using worldbuilder, however, that would be considered "cheating."

For cities, you can also zoom in really close and see wonders and whatnot. After you capture it though, you're stuck.

Haha, then you also know the frustration of keeping track of quests, not to mention all the stuff that rolls by especially late game
