How? I have an animated 3D model, all I need is to know how to get it in the game!

First, you need the right plugins to export in the .nif and .kf formats. These are not yet available, although the ones for other games might be able to be jury-rigged to work.

Then you need to know what the game needs. Specifically things like the names of nodes, how many it has to have, how the keyframes are set up, what each animation has to be named, and so forth. As far as I know, this information has not been released.

Found a solution to the .nif question:

Apparently Morrowind used the .nif format. The plugins are 3DS Max only though, so those of us with Lightwave/Maya are out of luck. :(

.kf is a mathematical document normally used for chemistry and other scientific modelling. I haven't found any plugins thus far that convert animations to .kf. :(

I have my model in Poser and can’t export it to 3DS Max (I tried but the model gets all whacked out), so I guess I’ll need to just wait. :-/

Not a solution... for real technical dirt, you can check out http://niftools.sourceforge.net/forum/

Civilization 4 is it's own little format. From waht I can tell, simpler object like buildings may be buildable soon... perhaps in a coupel of week, but animated models may take months.
