How do I? The technical dummie asks

I down loaded successfully the First Nation. Then when I tried to play it, using the shift key on the first time, I got the XML message. Reading further in the posts here I learned it had not been updated for the new patch, and I needed to go in and modifiy the XML files for CivilizationInfo, LeaderheadInfo, Unit Info for the leader, tech, 3 gorges, and forbidden palace.

How do I do this? I am a technical dummie level 1.
