How do I...

Most of them are in zip format aren't they? These zips should include instructions but basically I think you just need to extract the files into the My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\CustomAssets folder and they should appear when you fire Civ back up.

I've never done it myself but I'm fairly sure that's all there is to it.

That does not work at all. I can get ONE of them to work using the mods folder. That only works for ONE of them though. No more. You can't get more than one at a time into the game at the same time. With that being the case I see no reson for anybody trying to make new stuff to put into game. If I want new civs, unit, ect. I'll just have to wait for an expansion pack. I hate this XML stuff and with not even touch Python. They need an editor and file structure like CIV 3. I could get new stuff in that game easily. NOT with this impossible to mod game.

Edit: I love the game, just wish making changes to it were easier.

Well if you want to use more than one mod at a time you'll have to either wait patiently until somebody else does it for you or at least try to figure out how it works. It's definately easier to mod than Civ 3 was and you have control over more than you ever could with Civ 3.

I guess you'll just have to wait for an expansion pack.

It might be easier than Civ 3 if you are a programming genuis or maybe a beta tester for the game, but for most of us modding this game is almost impossible. I'm not talking about making making my own stuff either. Not going to try it. What makes me mad is trying to get other people's Civ's, units, etc into game and not being able to. Speaking of new civ's I don't see how more than one new one get into the game. I can get ONE new civ in game by using the mod folder in My Documents but that's it. To get more the one Civ,unit, or anything new into game it takes hours of work trying to combine the mods together and I have no idea where to start.

I wish we had an editor like civ 3 had where things like changing unit stats, techs, buildings and the like were so easy. This xml junk is impossible to work with.
I sure hope somewhere along the way an expansion pack puts new units and civs into game. I would love to see the DYP mod updated for civ 4.

Yeah, it's great programmers can mod this game with ease. I just wanted to do simple things that were all available in the Civ3 editor, like increase the time for workers to do their tasks or make the game longer. Adding other civs. Maybe I'll figure out, but right now, I'm trying to deal with 6 different mods going into two different directories and then cleaning out the cache in a third? This isn't a moddable game, it's open source. Mods are accessible to non-experts. Bah.

Check the New Civilizations thread. There are a couple of combined mods for multiple civs. I recommend LAnkou's SuperCiv because it has my mod (:)) and it has several of CivArmy's mods too. It also has the Turkish, Scot, Netherlands, etc.

And XML doesn't require programming knowledge. Open an XML file it up with Wordpad (one in the Civilizations folder) and do a word search for things you recognize like "Spain" or "Victoria". You can then try to make sense of the values.

XML isnt really that hard to pick up if you try. All I did to learn the basics was to browse the tutorials section here on the forums as well as browse the actualy XML files. Once you figure that out you realize it isnt that hard to do, time consuming yes, hard no.
