How do install mods/maps?

I guess the other computers also run with either Vista or 7?

The problem with these 2 operating systems: They prevent some programs from modifying things in the Program Files folder (and e.g. creating new folders for an installation is something like that).
Make sure that you run the installers with administrator rights, or that you reinstall civ somewhere else, not in the program files folder.

But the installer from FfH2 should also be affected by that .

hi guys, I've read this thread and my problem is even more basic. I downloaded a mod and my computer can't ID the file (The Ancient Med v2.01). When I downloaded it didn't ask me to "unzip" or "extract" anything, I was simply asked where I wanted the file saved (which I designated properly according to the mod instructions). I now have the mod but can't do anything with it. My PC labels it a "01File" when I check its properties. Has anyone encountered this? If so, what am I doing wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated:confused:

Yeah I'm putting it into the second one. I can see all of the other mods in there.

Is there something wrong with my comp?

I had some trouble also, but found out that after you put the downloaded mod on the Mod folder, you have to load it by selecting on the Civ main Menu ADVANCED > LOAD MOD:)

I hope it helps...

Ok i have installed FF+, put it into the correct folder in BtS, but when i try to load it from advanced --> load a mod it doesnt work, Civ4 BtS just crashes on me what do I do?

I used the check for updates button in BtS it automatically updated it to 3.19 for me so i think it was done automatically.

ok, so ill do that, ok so when i try to load the mod it starts to load but then I get this message
:

GFC Error: failed to initialize the primary control theme

Does FF+ come with an installer (i think so, but not sure...)?
If yes, did you then rename the FF+ folder? Because the folder name matters, if you change it the game will not be able to find the custom interface, and that results in such an error.

Old versions of FFP (anything before 1.64) absolutely required you to still have Final Frontier still on your computer (in the folder right next to FFP, normally) because the interface "theme" files it used were (accidentally) the ones in the regular FF instead of its own copy. If you are using an old version, 1.63 or earlier, that will have this problem if you do not still have regular FF on your computer.

Alternatively, you might have conflicting files in your Custom Assets. Check the Final Frontier Plus .ini file in the mod's folder and make the NoCustomAssets value a 1 to prevent that from interfering.

By the way, just over an hour ago a new version of FInal Frontier Plus was released. Version 1.7, with many new features added including the BUG mod, Defender Withdrawal mod component, and Multiple Production mod component.

where exactly is the Custom Assets file located because i cannot seem to find it on my computer

It's in the My Games folder, down in the Beyond the Sword folder.

Usually there is nothing in it unless you put something there or install something like the BUG mod in the "always active" mode such that you don't have to load a mod to get it (which happens because the Custom ASsets overrides everything else). The Blue Marble terrain package can also install there, and probably a few other things.

Even if you can't find it, or there is nothing there currently, setting FFP to have NoCustomAssets = 1 is a good idea.
