How do install mods/maps?

It's in the My Games folder, down in the Beyond the Sword folder.

Usually there is nothing in it unless you put something there or install something like the BUG mod in the "always active" mode such that you don't have to load a mod to get it (which happens because the Custom ASsets overrides everything else). The Blue Marble terrain package can also install there, and probably a few other things.

Even if you can't find it, or there is nothing there currently, setting FFP to have NoCustomAssets = 1 is a good idea.

To refer to what God-Emperor first said about the versions, i did not have final frontier installed on my computer because i had deleted it, it was extremely corrupted, so i removed it and installed Final Frontier Plus 1.62 Full download and now i have installed the 1.7 version add-on

OMG, i reloaded and downloaded all the FF and FF+ files and voila it works, thankyou very much The_J and God-Emperor, especially for replying to my comments so quickly i was expecting people to reply after a few days.

I am at about my wits end with this... HATE STEAM! Anyways...I downloaded the Extreme2 mod and want to play it... I extracted it and I know you are suppose to put it in the civ 4 bts mod folder but I can't find the folder...its like it doesn't exist! I never had this trouble before but that might be because I have never dealt with Steam before... Instead, I just put the mod in the downloaded files area. Please help! I want to get the game to work. :)

From what people have posted here about steam before, it seems that there is a "civilization 4 beyond the sword" folder that holds a "beyond the sword" folder that has the Mods folder in it. OR something like that.

Thank you for your help guys! I think I found the folder, after searching 'civ 4' in the search bar--I feel like such a noob--and the mod is now on the 'load mod' screen when I start up BTS but when I try to load the mod I get this error: 'GFC Error: failed to initialize the primary control theme.'

I copied it exactly, what does it mean?

Do NOT rename the folder!
The name has to be the same like the .zip file (or what author instructions say), else you'll get such an error.
(it essentially says that the game can't find the interface, because the folder name is wrong)

Alright so! I got the thing to load by changing the name to what it should be but now the game loads but there isn't any changes! The mod loads, says so in top right corner, but its just the original civ. :( Btw I appreciate your assistance greatly! :D

That problem again is also clear: The "double folder".
You have a FFPlus folder in your mods folder, right? Take a look in it. You will see another FFPlus folder, right?
If so, then take everything from the second folder and put it into the first folder. That should fix the problem.

FFPlus would actually "Final Frontier Plus", if that were the mod you were installing. (It's what atasaeed was trying to install, right before you posted with similar issues.)

Do not use the wrong name. Use the right name... (Which was an earlier point, just a few posts back.)

I have downloaded serveral mod into the download folder. I have tried to install them into the game and they do not work. What did I do wrong/

How do you play a game once you download it? I'm sure I installed it properly, as when I go on the game and select advanced then load a mod it is there. I click on it, it restarts but then takes me back to the main menu with the mod title in the top right corner; everything else is unchanged. What do I do and have I done anything wrong?
Also, I am new to modding, however I have a rough idea of what everything does, but please treat me as if i'm new. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums :).

May I guess that you downloaded some .zip/.rar file here, extracted it and moved it to the mods folder, yes?
If this is the case, take a look at the folder you've extracted. In it there should be a .ini file and most important an "Assets" folder (and probably some other stuff). If this is the case, then it's installed correctly.
In the case you see another folder with the mods name in this folder, then it's installed wrong. To fix it, go to the second folder with the mod name and move everything in it to the first folder.
That should be everything what is required.

Can anyone explain to me how to add a resource? I just want to add something simple into the game to see how it works.I tried adding the resource turquoise into my game. I then started a game up and went right into wordbuilder so I could see if any of the resource was on the map, but I saw none. I know this is probably pretty simple for most people and this question probably seems pretty stupid to most, but it someone would like to take the time to explain this or point me in the direction of someone that already has I would be very grateful.
