I can't find anything about this. It would be nice if it was encorporated into the text. Last I played, only the Doviello got these. Now I notice that the Dwarves do too with a Forge. Does everyone? What techs are needed?

For all but the Doviello, when a melee unit enters a town (either through construction or walking) with a forge and access to either bronze or iron they get the promotion bronze weapons or iron weapons. When they enter a town with a weaponsmith and mithril, they get the mithril weapons promotion.

The Doviello do not need a forge to gift their units with these promotions. I'm pretty sure that they need a weaponsmith, though I've never played with them that far into the game.

I asked the question about barbarian melee units getting weapon promotions in the Bugs thread without a response.

I opened the World Builder and although they had Bronze Weapons, they had no copper mines in their cities. Same for later with Iron Weapons.

It appears to me the barb melee units are getting the weapons 'automatically.'

It's a shame because it would create a fun quest to hunt down and take out barb metal mines without having to take out barb cities and move the counter. This should stop the metals promotion.

As it is now, it appears they spawn with the promotion automatically.

They spawn with the promotion automatically because they'd be even weaker if they didn't. If I want checkers, I'll play checkers, thank you very much. :mischief:

Yeah, I know it is a balance change, but it does remove some of the interest in taking down strong barbarian cities, a piece at a time.
