We're kicking around the idea of a war with Mongolia and possibly taking two cities (or more). We haven't been talking yet about what we should do with them once we've captured them.
Arguments for razing captured cities
Captured cities obviously count towards our number of cities, which impacts the maintenance and inflation numbers. Far away cities can have maintenance higher than their income, which we have already painfully seen can have an impact on scientific research. There is also some chance that the citizens of a captured city might revolt against us and rejoin their former civ, or possibly worse, join another of our neighbors.
Arguments for keeping captured cities
If we capture cities, we don't need to build settlers, or wait for them to travel to the remote locations. This cuts back on the risk of others reaching those locations after we raze a city and before we can resettle it ourselves. Keeping cities also limits our exposure to negative world opinion due to razing (if that's even a consideration).
