Hey everyone.. this is my first post here (though I've been lurking for a little while) so forgive me if this has been done to death.

What I want to know is what strategy is good for taking over the world, and not lagging behind in other aspects of the game? It always seems for me that in my rush to conquer the enemy I end up not having enough workers to develop the land, and not enough city improvements (especially the educational ones)

Is the good strategy to wait until you can't expand any more, THEN start with the warring? I think my mistake is being impatient and getting bogged down in wars too early.

anyway... discuss.

this place is cool: I'll probably hang around for awhile. Until Civ 3 gets boring, whenever that may be.

:borg: hehehe.. this place has cool smilies, too!

Well you make your conquest and build almost only attacking unit.

with new citi first thing you can do is build a worker (take 10 turn if far away from palace/FP and take 10 turn for your citi to grow to size 2) By doing this you will have 1 worker per citi.
For your building, when you get your Forbidden palace you can start to get some building in your main land, but either decide to build mainly libraries or marketplace so you can benefit fully from it depending if you have almost max science or cash

build your FP with a Leader If close of your palace but in a better position cuz your palace is in a peninsula rebuild your palace later on when you get bigger in a position that will give you more benefit.

You can let your rivals do the development and acquire it by either trade or peace deals :D . Also, make it a goal to grab as much land as possible from the start and build many cities. A solid war every now and then gives leaders that help for FP and wonders. For wonders, your rival civs are very capable of building them, just conquer them later.....

Well depends on the size of the map and what difficulty you are playing.
On a small map build up to six cities and when you get iron working quickly build a city near the iron. The look around at your neighbors and see who has no iron.
Declare war on them, and without swordsmen their spearmen will fall to your swordsmen.
What i would do is build up a military and place it on the border.
Assuming that each city has 2 defenders, put 4 swordsmen to each. THen move them in and conquer and raze or occupy. Make sure you got more troops coming in to take the rest of the civ.

I assume you are playing on an easier level so the AI won't expand too quickly. There won't be that many cities to take and hopefully the AI won't come back to life.

I also tend to make alliances just to drag everybody into the war ensuring nobody gets ahead.

Another tactic i like to use for the ancient era is to go get literature ASAp and build the Great Library. THen just get iron working and start pumping out swordsmen.
Lower your tech rate if needed.
Now the Great Library will keep you up to the most advanced civ until you discover edutcation in the Middle Ages which should be quite a while away.

God, I use that strat too. Great Library is really good for a military rush strat early. Just be ready for education (or wait until the very end of the age to get it)
