This may look like an odd thread, as getting ahead in tech is probably one of the main goals of the game especially with science victory enabled, however when you're in industrial era and most other AI barely just got to medieval with their tiny ships while you are dominating the seas with iron made ships, its just not fun. its simply too one sided!
This is especially common in lower difficulties; so I'm curios how every one else feels about this. do you agree or would you rather dominate everyone and steam roll ahead ?
I try to use other difficulties or simply give away tech to other civs who are way behind, even if they're non friendly to me. some times I purposefully try to research the lower side of the research tree so my technological advancements are slower.
Any one else got any other suggestions ?

Depends on the type of victory type I'm going for, as I'm better at some than others. For SV, Immortal or Deity.

I'm finding difficult to keep up with AI in Emperor. I'm always behind, not too far away, sometimes I manage to be in the middle. In King I'm almost always leading, so there I have my gap. Maybe you are more skilled and might move to Immortal.

There are comebacks mechanics, and fighting solves many problems, but the easy victories are over.

Being ahead in techs is not everything. I have lost games while being ahead. Two wars at the same time, not enough units on my side.

Being ahead in tech only win you wars if your units are TWO techs above theirs, often only being one tech above only serves to cancel out the massive amount of promotions ai units have, and i had many games where either lost oor lost the will to fight after 1,2 or even 3 ais declare war on me and i have to deal whit 70 units attacking me.
