Hey been playing the game for about a week and a half and I am addicted again. As a Civ 2 lover my favorite unit was the spy or the diplomat, and thats one element of civ 3 I am not enjoying.

Here is my problem I have researched espionage or what ever the tech is for spying but how do you insert a spy into an enemy capital. The only otpion i get when i hit the espionage button is to try and steal a technology?????? what is wrong here? how do I insert spy's to initiate propaganda and other stuff like the manual says? Your help is appreciated.:egypt: :scan:

you gotta build the intelligence agency small wonder for more espi options.Don't bother.Everything costs a fortune.

I have built the intelligence agency so whats next? Also I agree with you on the cost of the operations its just ridiculous, and thats just for stealing techs so I can imagine what the other operations must cost. But please can anyone tell me how to insert spy's?

Double-click on the pentagon icon that appears next to your city name on the city containing the intelligence agency. This will bring up a list of Civs and the cost of inserting a spy.

Be careful. There are two problems...

1) If you aren't successful, then your spy gets caught during insertion, and the rival leader gets pissed.

2) If your spy is caught, near as I can tell, you'll *never* get a spy in. Everytime my first effort at inserting a spy has failed, it continues to fail no matter how many times I try. I'm fairly sure this is a bug.

Smash is mostly right. The Spy operations are ridiculously expensive. (9000+ gold to steal a technology, for example.) However, spies are useful for propaganda missions if you want to try to convert a city.

I miss bribing units. That was cool. :)

I think they have to really revamp some things in this new civ, alot of the improvements are nice, but the cost on the espionage thing is just ridiculous, I dont know about anyone else but money in this game is extremely hard to come by certainly not like civ 2.

Also the corruption really needs to be toned down as its just out of hand, I hope they get a handle on this stuff quickly, I got my fingers crossed for the patch, especially the air superiorty bug, its frustrating watching computer controlled fighters flaming my bombers and not being able to respond with my own.

Oh, I've done it. I just never try it on the same turn. I'll wait awhile and eventually I can get him in.

Yeah, spying is extremely expensive and I've maybe stolen tech once or twice (you can usually just buy it from them for a fraction of the cost), but have never really used the other features due to cost. I do think the IA is worth if just to see the enemy battle order when you F3.
