How do you NOT launch?

But if you build all the spaceship, why wouldn't you desire to launch it? Do you create it just for the next Star Wars film or what?

To settle unfinished business in the game obviously, before winning. Like for example, killing off all of that AI civ who DARED to attack your settler in 1000 BCE. Or trying to score more points.

Basically to get a little more out of the game before winning it. ;)

Then, build all the components except one.

In Civ II, you could build it and send it off at a later date.

Why would I want to do that? Simply to maximise my score. This "cost" me around 1200 points in the GOTM. Why not just build the last bit at the end? Various reasons. 1.) I thought I could just launch it later. 2.) I wanted to have tighter control over when it is built (eg. leaving it to the last minute makes me more vulnerable). 3.) If I build it early, I can then sell factories etc to reduce pollution and support costs.

Suggestion to Firaxis: Allow the spaceship to be launched later!

In a way, it does make sense. In real life, your spaceship isn't going to work if you've built it and then wait 100 years before launching it. ;) Time can wear down machinery and components.

Question - can't you hit escape when the launch screen comes up? Or does your spaceship automatically launch upon completion of all the required components? I seem to remember needing to hit the launch button or something before getting my space victory.

I agree with you word for word !

I think Civ 3 should give a lot more points for finishing earlier than they currently do...then there would be no debate like this. Finishing earlier should be the #1 factor in score, not #20.

I do that too; also the dumb diplomatic one. Nobody's going to like anyway, after getting their collective butts kicked by me in wars and the like. :D

:( They should allow us to launch only when we're good and ready. It completely surprised me the first time I completed my space lounge - I still want to research Longevity!

I build big spaceships and put all of my enimies in them. Then I fly that thing into the sun.

The point here, is that people want the option to launch the spaceship but be able to choose when to launch it so that they can have a nuclear war and if it all starts to go wrong, they can still win.
