How do you rate John Turturro?

I have been thinking about this recently. I almost never see him mentioned when favorite actors are being talked about, so i want to know what you guys opinion is about him. Even when The Coen brothers are in the discussion, the main players always are Jeff Bridges, John Goodman or Steve Buscemi, but almost never him.
So do you people rate him as an actor, and if not, why?

He's genius.

"Come Saturday, You got a date with Jesus, BABY!"

Just like John Goodman or Steve Buscemi, I have never heard of the man....

I am a walking database, but movie stuff refuses to stay in my head.

Watch "The Big Lebowski". Possibly the best movie ever made. They are all three in it. You won't be sorry!

I did watch that movie! It is indeed great. But no reason for me to remember the names of the actors.

Turturro is Jesus Quintanna, the "creep who can roll". The bowler with the purple suit-thing.

Bridges is "The Dude". He was so perfect for that I can't imagine him as anything else. He's always "The Dude". Or "El Duderino", if you're not into the whole brevity theing.

If it weren't for Bridges flawless performance, Goodman's Walter Sobchek would have easily stolen the show.

Walter on his conversion to Judaism and reluctance to ignore Jewish tradition...

"3000 years of beautiful tradition from Moses to Sandy Koufax, you're GOD****ED RIGHT I'M LIVING IN THE PAST!"

@ thestonesfan:

You said it, pendejo. Nobody f*cks with the Jesus.

BTW, my avatar is Walter, if you hadn't noticed. :D

John Turturro is great, and sorely overlooked. For an example of how good an actor he is, give the Coens' Barton Fink a watch - it also contains another maniacally scene-stealing perfomance from John Goodman if you need further encouragement :D

I noticed. I was holding a jealous silence. :D

"Walter, if my ex-wife asked me to watch her dog, I'd tell her to go..."

Anyway, what's your favorite scene? It's tough. Despite the sublime genius of the entire film and nearly every line of dialogue, possibly my favorite scene is when the Dude drops the roach in his crotch while driving, freaks out, and pours the beer on it. Then he slams into some trashcans. Slapstick hilarity, to be sure, but hilarity nonetheless.

Of course, there's also the ash scene...

My favorite scene would probably be where the Dude is in the limo with the Big Lebowski trying to explain his actions:

Dude: Look, I've got certain information, certain things have come to light, and uh, has it ever occurred to you, man, that given the nature of all this new sh!t, that, uh, instead of running around blaming me, that this whole thing might just be, not, you know, not just such a simple, but uh--you know?

Lebowski: What in God's holy name are you blathering about?

Although I also like the scene with Walter smashing up the corvette.

"You see what happens Larry? This is what happens when you f*ck a stranger in the as$!"

Turturro's best Coen brothers performance is in Miller's Crossing as Bernie Bernbaum, of course. So you're all heathen. And of course his best is there, because Miller's Crossing is the best movie of all time.

Sure, so he was funny in Lebowski, so what? How can that compare to his delivery of lines like:

"We don't bump guys, Tommy! We're not like those animals back there!"

"...but if I stayed, then I got you. You didn't see the angle you gave me, Tommy."

"What, nuthin' to crack wise about now?"

I liked him in Clockers, too. Still, something irks me about the guy.

The Big Lebowski is a classic; definately one of my favorite films of all time.

You said it man, nobody f**ks with the Jesus. :yeah:

John, John, and Steve are all three great actors with their own unique style in humor and comedy. Out of the three I enjoy Steve the most and then Goodman. Turturro is still great, I just prefer the other two.

Great actor who played in great movies. His role in Spike Lee's "Do the right thing" was a hard one to play but he pulled it off with greatness. He's definitly one of my favorite actors. He's great in movies (read commercial main-stream movies) but he's a genius in films.

He was also the only watchable thing in Adam Sandler's Mr. Deeds.

But if you want to catch his best performance, see "Quiz Show".

He's okay, I don't know, there's something about him that rubs me the wrong way.

My friend says she can't stand looking at him, he was supposed to give her the creeps. Something about his way of delivery.

What about Jeff Bridges? You know The Dude.:)
