How do you safely change the music files?

I have some mp3's that i used to replace some of the standard songs by renaming the files...problem is, it crashes upon loading. Any solutions?

CTRL-P for preferences. Turn off music. Run WinAmp/iTunes/(Your preferred music player here), yer all set.
