How do you skip the beginning cutscene

Escape, spacebar, hitting random keys, and crying dont seem to work.

In fact, sometimes I get Crash to desktops. How do I avoid watching the old man babble?

When the younger guy, guess its me, leaves the tent... dont you see a smirk on his face and he starts to think of all the killing he is about to start? I swear I see a movie start when that younger guy is a bad guy and he is about to kill off that babbling guy and then steal some dagger that has a big red button that makes the user go back in time and then a thief steals it and he falls in love with a hottie and there are video games made of that... wait... is that CIV V?

There's an .ini file in the Civ 5 directory under My Documents, and there's a 'skipvideo = 0' entry in it (close to that, anyway). Change it to 1.

I haven't played the game yet but I think someone mentioned that pressing f1 stops the cutscene. Of course, I cant guarantee it will work.

F1 did not work... i went F1 thru F12... and somewhere about F8 thru F11 it ended.

THANK THE MAKER! Function keys are functional! There you go, Sid, no more babbling old guy smoking some serious #@!$.

HA HA HA.

The joke is on me. I decided to log off and start a new game ... and the function keys now dont skip it. HA HA HA.

The joke is on me. The babbling guy gets to talk!

or just delete the file...

I alt tab back and in while frenetically clicking and spamming my keyboard. Does the job.

Yeah, the problem is that when running the intro the game switches out of focus, so you are actually clicking/pressing keys on desktop or whatever.
The fix is easy, just alt tab back into civ and then the keys work

I think the game is loading in the background, and you have to wait to skip the cutscene until it is done loading.

I pressed the mouse button a bunch of times, and only had to watch like 10 seconds of the old guy before it stopped.

I would be nice to get a loading screen instead of the cutscene if you desired, but no big deal, in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah it's this: I pressed enter over and over, and eventually he stopped.

I think the loading is right. I tried ot left click as soon as i see that blue opening in the hut... and nothing... F1 thru F12... nothing... then somewhere about him babbling about the fade (dream).... it works

Rename the intro movie to have a different extension (.old, say) and it won't load - however you'll get a black screen while the pre-caching is running.

The file is in \Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\UserSettings.ini

Code:
SkipIntroVideo = 0

Change 0 to 1

I've done it and confirmed that it works.

if it has to load while the intro video is playing, that's a problem.

\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\UserSettings.ini

SkipIntroVideo = 0

change to

SkipIntroVideo = 1

This results in starting the game producing a black screen for 15 seconds while it loads the game. It then goes straight to the main menu.

This should seriously be stickied, there have been a dozen threads where this question came up and it's still coming up daily.

they'll just be a black screen for 30 seconds or so instead of the movie. I prefer the black screen.
