How do you take a screen shot?

When I try to take a screen shot, all I get is a black screen.

I use the Print Screen key. Then I exit to windows and open up notepad. When I paste the contents of the clipboard into Notepad all I see is a black screen.

Is there any way to get a screen shot in CiV?

You should try to take a look at the screenshots folder somewhere in the My Documents\My Games\Civ5 folder after hitting the print key .

Ahh...I see. I found the screen shots, but the interface is missing from the pictures. They are just the units, cities, and terrain without any text or GUI? Is that normal?

The file format is for Apple picture viewer. Is there any way to change the file format of the screen shots?

Sadly there isn't :/.
You'd have to convert (...meaning opening and saving in .jpg or something more well known) them manually.

I can only open them with Apply Picture Viewer (MS Paint and Picture Manager do not open the files). Apple Picture Viewer will not let me save in a different format. Is there another program that I can download which will?

I in general recommend IrfanView as a free, lightweight and easy to use image viewer.

Okay, I figured out how to convert the format without downloading any software. In the Apply Picture Viewer, there is an option to copy the picture. I then pasted it into MS Paint and saved as a .jpg file so that I could upload it to an imaging hosting service.

Here is the screenshot that I took. The map is visible, but there is no interface at all and the names of the cities are not visible. I am trying to show that the CS has taken over 4 other city states to have an allied minor empire with 5 cities. Kind of difficult when the city names are absent from the picture.

Any ideas how to get a better screenshot?

Maybe something in the printing function is corrupt .
So try to validate the games files (in Steam -> library -> games -> Civ5 -> rightclick -> properties -> local files -> validate integrity of the game cache) and see if you can take afterwards proper screenshots.

Steam has a built-in screenshot function and includes a gigabyte of free hosting. Check your settings in Steam.
