how do you update your sound driver?

I suggest you go to the website that offers support for your computer, for example if your computer is a Hewlett-Packard, then you would go to hp.com, or if you know---or can find out your drivers, then go to those websites.

Google is your friend.

yeah i went to dell.com and microsoft.com but i couldnt find any sound card driver updates that i could install

First I suggest that you lookup your computer or laptop specifically so you can see the drivers (most big companies have them), for example my computer is a Compaq Presario R3000, so I would look that up and find a list of installable drivers.

well i just called dell today and i updated my driver but i guess the newest installable driver they have for my computer is two years old.

so if the sound driver is the problem i might have to buy a new one.

whats the date on yours?

First question what kind of sound card do you have ?

In control panel > sounds and audio devices . audio tab , that should tell you .

Realtek is a common integrated card and soundblaster is a common separate card. their web sites would have the latest drivers.

Your original dell documentation / installation discs should also point you in the right direction of whats in your PC.

Try that and see if you can track down what brand you have to update

cheers

I've just remembered,

clik Start / run / type in dxdiag and click ok

let it do it's thing and that should give you a snap shot of your computer ,
from there it's go to the sound card manufacturers web site and download from there , should be self installing.

cheers

yeah thats what they told me to do when i called civ tech support but my card company, SoundMax, doesnt have any downloadable updates.
