How do you use paratroopers?

Hey guys, I was just wondering how you used paratroopers. The reason I am asking is that this unit has always been a mystery to me. On one had, it is an offensive unit due to its drop ability. On that other hand, it is a defensive unit that has higher defense than attack, and an attack that gets nowhere in the modern times. I mean, honestly, what are you going to do with attack of 8 or 10 against the Mech Infantry or TOW with their 18 and 14 defense?

So how do you use this unit? I am considering altering it in a mod I am making to make its attack stronger. What do you guys think?

Thanks.

They are good to drop on resourses or luxuries, also to drop on an injured unit
or units inside enemy territory ;) . They look  too, but as far as good
units go they are NOT one  .

If you are seperated by a narrow bit of water or a bit of rough terrain you can bomb a city to death, drop the parachuter and take it/raze it. Consider it as a player in a combined arms assault.

I used them once. The AI had no coal to build RR. So after capturing a city, it took a long time for my Infantry to get to the city (3 move limit on roads). So my strategy was that I started my tanks rolling in... captured a city... sent paratroopers in to defend the city, which allowed my tanks to keep rolling. Paratroopers can defend the city until the slower moving infantry arrives. It made my attack much quicker, and the defense of newly captured cities much easier. :goodjob:

I don't think I would use them all the time... But it was fun! :D

Tanks defend just as well, and I believe they cost the same as paratroopers?

Paratroopers would be so much more powerful if they could move after they friggin'dropped !
mmm... that said... can you give paratroopers the "amphibious assault" ability, thus enabling them to drop on enemy cities ? That would be cool !

I’m playing Conquests. I believe tanks are 100 shields with 16/8/2. Paratrooper’s are a little less… 90 shields, with a little more defense… 4/9/1 range 6. I know that’s a small difference, but as I said… it was fun! :)

Paratrooper’s upgrade to Modern Paratrooper is useless  ...but the game was over long before I ever got synthetic fiber. :D
