Literally HOW do you use them? Not, what do you use them for, but how do you actually use them? How do spy on other players, or steal technology or anything? How do you do anything with spies? All I can do is move it to a hideout which doesn't seem to do anything.

Got G&K and BNW about a week ago but I haven't actually played with espionage until now and I have literally no idea how to actually control my spy.

Sorry if this seems like a stupid thread to put on strategy but I don't know where else to post it.

Spies become available until the renaissance era. Once they're there, you can place spies in other cities and also in your cities for counter espionage, spying and as a diplomat.

Once you are inside the spy screen, there is a button you click on to move, then you need to select a location from the list on the right hand side of the same screen.

If you move to an AI city (capitol city is usualy best) then the Spy will pend some time traveling, then establishing surveillance. At that point, you will know if there is tech to steal, the spy menu will show how many turns until they can steal it. If no tech, then it will say so.

Moving to a city state causes election rigging in your favor.

Moving to your own city causes the spy to perform anti-espionage (your capitol is the best choice).

You have to go to the espionage screen and assign the spy to any city of your choice of where you want the mission to happen. Once you're in the espionage screen, you click on move and then you choose a city on the right where you want to do a mission. You can counter espionage in your cities, steal spies in other cities and spread propaganda in other civilizations' capital cities.

I get the occasional Intel about somebody plotting against somebody else (which is pretty worthless) and about somebody plotting against you or working on a Wonder (obviously pretty important).
