How do you want the Advisors to work?

I'm personally hoping they make the advisors like political Figures (Kinda like Colonization), where each advisor brings a certain advantage to your civilization and depending on how you run your civilization certain advisors come out (or even depending on your civilization)

Also, maybe in expansion packs you get famous rebels that help you lead your civilization toward peace after war. Like perhaps if you conquer a native american civ you get someone like Sitting Bull or another mediator in order to handle the affairs of those people... Or something like that :p
 
I want them easy to turn off so I can ignore them. Advisors have always been useless once you're past the initial learning stage.
 
Thats why I'm hoping they make them relevant. So even if they are silent partners they still matter... plus from a mod standpoint it'd be cool...
 
It would be great if they were geared toward specific questions or topics, rather than the traditional areas like "military" or "financial." There are many situations in which the computer can notice things and remind you of them if you are distracted by the day-to-day of running your empire.

For example, pop-ups could say...

  • Warning -- We have noticed a troop build up in this area.

  • Each of these military units is less than 3 tiles away from your cultural borders. If you move them, you will save X gold per turn.

  • (For important techs) Rival civilization X has just discovered tech Y, which gives them the following abilities...

  • This unit is set to explore mode, but there are no more undiscovered tiles on this landmass.

I think you get the idea...
 
I dont think they are going to do advisors the way they did FF in colonization, I think FF took the place of Wonders in Colonization, in a way. I also hope we can turn them off if they are completely useless. Something as describes by Farsay wouldnt be so bad, but I can see them popping up with annoying info, that will get tiresome over time. Hopefully once I learn what they advise, and when they do it, I will learn to do it myself, then turn them off.
 
I'd like my advisor to clear his throat and say "Most Magnificent, it's been 50 years since we completed The Pyramids. Were you planning on changing civics?" or " now that we are building railroads would be a good time to employ those dozen workers who have been having coffee in Paris for the last century."

I'd like to see something similar only with choices for what pop-ups you get. That way you aren't spammed with unnecessary notes.

First of all, the series has finally gotten around to being able to show that not all civs are white. It would make sense, then, to see, say, the Aztec war advisor dressed up like a jaguar or something, rather than have the same white guy in the same clothing for all civs.

Second of all, if they all looked unique and said unique things, the novelty wouldn't wear off quite so fast (at least not for people who don't use the same civ every time).

This I wouldnt mind, since espionage is out, or atleast not like iv, this way I can see where other civs are at, before I actually see catapults at my door, and less time spent checking up on everyone.

Like Sun Tzu say "Know yourself and enemy and you will never lose in hundred battle." (probably when enemy acting suspiciously near border.)

Quite so, such reminders would be most helpful. It happens so often you've got a stack of workers sitting idle because you were done with all the work and when a new ability such as plantation or railroad becomes available, it's after a few turns (if you're lucky) that you notice them lounging with a coffee.

And I'd like any pop-up to be non-intrusive, that is, you don't have to deal with him immediately, but you can do something else without having to click the advisor away.
 
If I screw up with a decision, rather than reloading I want to be able to force my advisor to own the decision and resign so that he can "spend time with his family."

Then I get +10 to my polls numbers and all is well. Until I get bored, find him, and toss him into the scorpion pit. Things will still be well, but not for him.
