So far I still haven't have the chance to try Civ4, one thing that worries me is that I am not quite sure if my computer can handle Civ4. My computer is customly built with an 1GHz Athlon with 256mb graphic and 512mb ram
I am not expecting to be able to alt-tab, but I hope it won't be able to slow down my computer too much
So far my computer can still handle Sims 2 and Half Life 2 alright, will Civ4 be a problem?

with the latest patch you can switch to the use of low resolution textures which greatly reduces the lag in the late game.

the problem with my pc is, that civ4 crashes every now and then with a debugger message...

Mine runs just fine.... but then I did buy a supercomputer to play it!

AMD Athlon 3200+ (Only chip available at the time in Bangkok)
2x Corsair 1gb Dual Cannal
NVIDEA GeForce 7800GTX
300GB SATA

If it didn't run fine then I think I would have cause for complaint! :crazyeye: ;)

grrrr get out the way rich boy   just kidding
I would have like a new computer
The spirit is willing, but the wallet is weak

Great investment! I've only had it a month and I am sure I have had half the value out of it already! :)

A64 3200+
2x512 Muskin redline
6600GT
160G SATA

Everything works fine at Max., except for the victory movies, still choppy.

I think you might struggle with 512MB RAM (Windows itself will use the lion's share of that so there's not much left over for anything else). The early game is not too bad, it's when you get the full map revealed with lots going on that takes it's toll on the system. I would say you shouldn't attempt anything bigger than a standard size map, unless you enjoy waiting five minutes between each turn later in the game.

I doubled my RAM to 1GB (which helped) and have a P4 2.4GHz CPU + 128MB GeForce4 graphics card. I like to have all game settings on full. I find standard maps are fine now, with the latest patch, and large maps are just about do-able (but still slow down in places in the late game). There's no way I would try and run a huge terra map. Occasionally the wonder movies don't play but once you've seen them this is no great loss, really.

I have to wait about 3+ minutes to start playing saved games that are over 300k in size. I always play for about 4 hours before turning off, so the wait is just an annoyance.

Double your RAM and patch the game as soon as you get it.

Don't play bigger than Standard Map and be patient with game turn times after about 1500 AD

And save up your gold for a flash system like spearthrower!!!

I have a really powerful PC with 2GBs of RAM and a good graphic card so it runs really smoothly for me.

Mine runs fine on an out of the box cheapo Dell. I have whatever Intel 3D onboard crap it came with and it still runs fine (with 1.52 of course). I was expecting to have to swap in my vid card from my older system, but just as happy that I didn't need to.

I do have 1Gb ram though, I think alot of the slow down issues reported by people were with systems with only 512Mb.

I get by with 512 of ram and a 64mg video card my processor is decent and I have 2.6 gigs of processing spead... I did however make a big mistake by playing a huge world game and I am really suffering at the end game point. that and considering I am playing on marathon makes it even more painful. I get about 20 turns per 2 hour playing time.... its killing me but I gotta finish it.

I got a

Athlon xp 3000+ MMX 3Dnow technology 2.2GHz
1GB ram pc3200 400MHz
Geforce 6600GT 128mb DDR3 (changed today from a radeon 9600pro 256mb cuz the game has a problem with ATI cards)
sound blaster live 5.1

I should had never bought a new graphics card it's still slugish good game **** programing!!

GIDS888 has the right Idea only thing is your gunna save a long time before you can buy that old NASA super computer

I am sure it will run, with latest patch and no huge maps, on low graphics it will run. But you havent told what kind of graphic crad you have. The size of memory tells nothing about the actual performance of the VGA, it's quite annoying when people ony mention this to describe their PC... so noobish :D :P

I have an AMD 3000 XP, 1 gig of duel channel memory, and a 256 meg Radeon X850 XT. I run everything on high, all AA and filtering force on by the card, any sized map, and 1280x1024 rez. No issues with any patch.

I did have some issues when I had my 9800 PRO video card. After upgrading everything has been sweet.

LOL, you aren't the only one. If this had run okay on my laptop, I'm sure my wife and i would have soldiered on with it for another 2 or three years.

But since Civ didn't work,..it was time for a new 'puter.

AMD 4200 X2.
Nvidia 7800 GTX
250 Gb Sata

Runs like butter. And now we just have to convince ourselves we DIDN'T buy it just for Civ!

TRY IT, Veteranewbie!!!!!
I've got an AMD Duron 700 Mhz, 128 SDRAM memory, and a GeForce2.
Would you believe me if I tell you it works absolutely perfect?????

mine runs really badly and after ive finished playing i have to restart my pc for some reason else it runs really really slowly doing anything else.

I've got a pentium 2.2, 256 MB, and a NVidia GeForce 4000 64 Mb. Runs pretty good except for the wonder movies.
