How Does One Become a Moderator?

I work in tech, I don't need to talk about it in my free time, that's why Gonzo handles that.

TF and I were in a high stakes poker game, and I drew and inside straight.
Thinking I was a sure winner, I bet the farm, but TF had four bullets.
Unable to pay the marker, I was forced to agree to moderate his then small forums, he said "you will love it, and people will love you!"

Hundreds of death threats later, here I am.

You mean you WEREN'T sold into it???? Maybe TF was lying when he said he'd already purchased our social lives..I want answers!!!!!

Everyone THINKS they can handle it....the real trick is just a simple seperation of real life and CFC. I DO NOT go around thinking about any decision I made earlier or any immature comment a poster may have made or a stupid opinion someone had, if you learn to leave it behind and let others get pissed off for you, it's not too hard. Finding people who can do that, however, is.

being a mod = having a millstone around your neck. Being condemned to spend the time monitoring the appropriate forum. But well, fortunately there are some courageous (or stupid No I wasn'tl looking at hippo nor gonzo) people willing to do that for us all. Great. It's much better being a simple user going wherever he/she wants, rather than being a cop running after kids.

Spoken like someone out of the loop.(which you are. )

Not one of the moderators here enjoys banning posters or threats, but it's part of the job.

The best part is helping people who ask questions, need things, and so forth.

It's the jerk-offs that cause problems we ALL can't stand, and make things difficult.

The good side also includes making things work, taking good ideas (Like Cornmaster's Democracy game, for example) and making it work, or Dell's idea of a sports forum and making it happen.
Or of getting the History forum I always wanted, which is still the most intelligent forum on not only this site, but on most net sites, due completly to the posters whom make excellent threads and compitent answers.

There is also a measure of pride knowing that the Off Topic Lefty and I work so hard maintaining retains it's air of friendly discourse, unlike the opposition's which is a continuous flame fest.

That's why I continue to moderate, no amount of foolish children, no matter who annoying, will make me leave things like this I so enjoy, no matter HOW much I hate a number of aspects of it.
