been gone from civ 5 for few months due to work overload heres my feed back of recent developments.
So recently my civ 5 updated did not notice any changes much apart from the AI war caught me off guard it is still bad but does seem to have improved significantly.
I bought the wonder updates and Korea civ isn't it nice to buy the same game a 1000 times?
whilst the korean civilisation looked like they would be good after playing as them I really don't rate them. I did achieve a significant tec lead later on significantly more then i usually have. However this was late game the problem was they are not good for early game and often getting the lead early can be crucial for long term. I suppose if your playing on epic or marathon games they may be useful, However I would not take them into a deity difficulty game or an internet multiplayer one.
anyway heres my current game story.
I got somewhat annoyed by peoples posts on youtube such as huge city size 40 etc as if this is the most phenomenal thing ever achieved. considering I have managed such feats without really trying directly towards that goal it seemed a bit some what unimpressive. I made abusive comments (otherwise known as trolling) on someones youtube video and got a few back. Now I am on my way to prove how big a city can be if we try.
The aim of the current game is to get the biggest city possible. in order to do this we need a few things.
1. We need the ideal start location not much chance if we start in plains.
obviously I would have to start a game then quit and try another start till i got the ideal place.
2. a lot of maritime states in order to do this we need to have a huge map.
3. the right situation obviously if we are been attacked constantly then the chance is diminished.
4. the right leader.
So to get the game chosen I decided on emperor difficulty I usually play immortal and occasionally deity However I figure if I am going to be facing huge armies constantly it may not be realistic. though playing on settler just seems pointless and anything below immortal hardly seems challenging so the best compromise for this was emperor.
in order to get the best start I decided to select the earth map as I know this has areas of fertile land.
I also picked huge map to allow for lots of maritime states.
I then had to pick the civ to play as, It was a choice between Ghandhi happiness bonus allows bigger cities faster.
Alexander is I am planing on buying out a lot of city states this would definitely be more economical.
or Siam the plus 50% food and culture is significant.
in the end I decided on Siam long term he is better for the ultimate intended goal. I feel it will be hard to have the economy to buy out all the maritime states without a lot of cities so that rules Ghandhi out.
it was a bit of choice between greece and Siam but I decided on Siam in the end. because I figure long term the food bonus will outweigh the cost effect for the intended goal.
after several reloads from infertile lands we eventually ended up in Africa. Africa has some very fertile land and also has the advantage of been closed off. we have not got the perfect location. So however big I get I know bigger can be done. However it does have lot of flood plains and sugar so I can sell of the sugar to fund maritime state buy outs through out the game.
We share our continent with two rivals England and Babylon. In order to achieve stability I have decided the ultimate goal is to wipe out both these players. the rest of the world is not of concern I can expand into as my growth warrants. However I can never afford to slip into unhappiness so my conquest will be limited to the happiness factor.
so heres the game so far and we are not so far in because due to several episodes of not noticing I have gone over 24 hours without sleep or food and disruptions to my course I have set up a very strict rule of 3 hours only a day controlled by an alarm. when the alarm goes I have to stop no matter what.
so I will report as things go.
Day one (yesterday only day so far)
Babylon launched an early attack on me which was disastrous normally the Ai is bad but sending warriors into to try and take a size 15 city is absurd in the extreme. after having lost all there military there entire army after against a single city and an archer babylon offered peace terms which involved them giving me several hundred gold amongst other things. considering my city is plantations and farms production sucks so my army was laughable since I did not have the army to invade them I accepted the gold and decided to bind my time. a second city was founded near an oasis and silver mines to gain more gold and production to actually have an army.
England got very aggressive in expansion and decided to build city's between my two
I built an army and took two cities off England before accepting there surrender. Babylon are more of a threat and closer linked now.
we have successfully built the hanging gardens in our capital which of course led to many turns of nothing else been produced. Rome and the Aztecs have declared war on me several times however with a large supply of gold I bought out the city states blockading the entrance into africa and effectively stopped them getting through.
so far the city state buy outs are five city states strategically positioned some culture some maritime.
I progressed towards long sword men and am about to invade Babylon the intention is to wipe them out completely this war. Babylon seem able to produce large armies and obviously i was delayed due to production. so a larger army then usual is now needed to eliminate the first opponent. to this end two horsemen four longswordmen 3 catapults and a general are on the border ready to attack.
I started by exploring the tradition policy track to get the food bonus and since I am playing city state dependent strat am exploring the Patronage track now.
we are lagging in science but I am confident I will catch up its still early days.
the current situation is I have my army positioned on the borders of Babylon ready to invade. the capital is size 22, and I think did not check when I saved and quit, that we are in the late BC early AD period. i really wanted to fight Babylon last night but the alarm went believe it or not a turn before I was about to click declare war. Well thats nice isn't it.
. had to stick to the rule so saved and quit. will update the rest after tonights play.
