How is Warlords?

Hey all,

I've been playing CIV Vanilla for a few months and play with a warwonger slant... Granted, I'm still learning about the plain game, but I'm tempted to pickup Warlords for the improvments to the "War" aspect of the game ;) ...

Any input one way or another?

I pre-ordered it, so I have had it for a while. Since the 2.08 patch came out on the PC side and evidently changes the game quite a bit I was going to wait until that came out on the Mac before I played Warlords much. But I have been totally sucked in. Especially if you like war it has a lot going for it.

This is just my personal opinion of course, but I wasn't very impressed with the additions. The great leader/warlord is nice - that was an omission from the start. I haven't used vassal states yet. Civ-specific buildings - good. There are some new civs, but since I've been using CivGold, that wouldn't have sold me. Oh, and the Great Wall is cool.

What I'm wondering about is performance. What are others seeing in that department? Honestly, since using Warlords, it seems the game is actually more sluggish (!) than before. Since it would be unbelievable that Aspyr, with all of the complaints, would make Warlords slower, this has to be in my imagination, right? Maybe my view of Warlords is corrupted by my misperception of its performance.

Warlords definetly runs slower for me, but I have had none of the other issues running warlords (black ice/units/buildings, no battle sounds etc) that I have with vanilla

Recently bought Warlords hoping that maybe some performance issues might be corrected, but it seems like it's the same. Once I get to Military Tradition the scrolling just becomes unbearable.

Hi,

I have recently bought the warlords extension hoping it would include improvements in the gameplay due to its higher version number.

My experience is mixed. The new features are interesting, but to me the performance seems to be significantly slower compared to the vanilla version.

It was so bad, that I gave up playing the extension on my (admittedly rather old) G5 iMac. I have now returned to playing the vanilla version.

I find it rather suprising that the newer game version has a worse performance. I hope that Aspyr will provide some kind of patch (maybe to version 2.08), or this will be my first and last game from them.

Greetings from Germany

There's a version of CivGold that pre-dates Warlords and runs with Civ4 vanilla.

Alan - much obliged to you. Sounds like a bit of work, but worth the effort. I'll get round to it if I ever have the time to spare...
