How long should turn time be at beginning of game?

I just started my first game on a large custom made world map with 22 pre-set civs and 20 city states or so, and it's almost 15 to 20 seconds per turn at the start. I have a new i5 laptop with a dedicated AMD GPU. Is this really normal for the beginning of a game? What happens later on?

However long it took right after you hit end turn in 4000 BC is as fast as it will ever be. (On that computer on whatever graphic settings you set yours too.

Time between turns will be much longer in late game unless you either switch to strategic view right before hitting end of turn by then or else turn down graphic settings by then.

How many turns are there in the game? 500?
500 turns + 20 seconds per turn, that's 10000 seconds of your life waiting for the next turn and watching meaningless animations.
Time goes by really fast this way.

Awhile ago I did some clocking (vanilla + huge map) : 5-10 seconds/turn + stategic view and 10-15 seconds/turn + normal view.
This was for he first 175 turns of the game, after that it went up to 30 seconds/turn.
And when a war broke out, turns could easily reach 1 minute.

I think that's time victory on standard speed; but I've only had one game in which wasn't over by turn 400.

It's normally between turns 280 & 340 that I win.

First turn with maxed out civs will take quite a long time. City is settled, AI choosing production and research, and moving their unit. From that point until late game, turns will usually take between 3-10 seconds, unless you have a lot of city-states.

It'll take longer after other civilizations build their second, third -and more- cities.
