Before I made my thread about achievement saves (link in signature) and used that reload method, I did actually play regular games with many more than usual workers and just chopped the whole planet tile by tile, turn by turn (without reloading). (Did they same with roads... CIV II style, you know?). I actually had about equally many forest chopped as mines created, since Mines require the hills to be inside your territory. Forest can be chopped anywhere.

83 as of now, with the most recent one being the "Win a Multiplayer Match" one. Pretty happy I finally got this one, as I don't know many people who have time to play a whole game of Hot Seat.

I plan to go achievement-hunting in summer - not enough time right now...

I got that achievement via HotSeat all by accident.

I have none.

Except when I'm letting the game update (which is rarely), I keep it totally locked out. My total time played on Steam is, I think, about 5 minutes.

Running at 115. I played quite a while before paying any attention to them. Now I am sort of motivated to get them. It is included in the price and no one says you gotta do them so I'm just getting my moneys worth. (only bought new world and Babylon so far, but will keep going as long as its fun).
I've read a few threads on the steam forum about activating the debug routine, and when I tried it out I noticed there were a lot of differences in what steam says I have and what the achievement_debug.log (?) says I have. One readers said on of the updates messed up some of the stats. Any thoughts on that?

As far as I know, achievement log only updates when starting the game, it doens't update at all whilst in game. so if it said 30 temples built when you started, you build 7 more, it won't say 37, but will still say 30. However, once you exit and start the game again, the log will update and say 37.

I might cheat and get the remaining ones, I dunno, maybe I'll play with every leader again... that should speed up some of the achievements.

Yep.

However text editors usually tell you that the file has been changed and needs to be reloaded when you close the game down while you got the file open, which is misleading! The log really only updates when the game is started again.

I am now lacking 6 achievements.
I am at 61 wins, 71 generals and I made the units a long time ago and reached liek 103 units.
I am exactly 100 away from getting the road achievement,
I am unforutnaely at 1/4 of the Chopped forest achievemtns
I am almost 1/2 of Temples built
And I am more than 1/2 of mines built.

I also have nearly purchased 1000 tiles (3/4).

Btw, anybody know a good way to speed up the Forest achievement?

If you use the advance setup option the oval world gives you the option to pick the width and dominant terrain of the paths between starting positions. So oval with 5 wide and forest gives you a ton of trees to let Paul Bunyan chop.

Just to clarify, when you say start up the game do you mean as in clicking on the civ V icon from desk top or begin a whole new game from the main menu?

I reread your earlier comment and checked out my settings.. I did not have logging =1 and so I shut down and started from desktop and got better numbers !!
Thanks

hmm... achievements... we all have our own ideas about them...

Personally, I will not cheat them, imho that devalues them, and lessens the achievement of obtaining them... however, I do respect other's rights to (imo) cheat them... these are for single player games (mostly) and what rules we abide by, we set ourselves, for our own enjoyment.

Which is why, although I have something like 161 of them, there are a few easily cheatable ones I have still to get... I will get them eventually in normal play, I have patience, and know they will come.

However, there are a couple I'm not interested in getting, so I'm never likely to have a full set... like TaiKwandoooh (or however it's spelled) and the one for letting barbs take a city. I don't see the point in deliberately losing.

Some of them can be fun, and I support their inclusion, but in the end, playing the game is what it's all about for me, and the game will always be so much more than a few achievements.

True, I always saw achievements as a tiny layer of re-playbility.

And when I meant "start a new game" I mean the exe/shortcut.

If you have explorers, there's also a few other map scripts that have a dropdown to pick dominant terrain from.
