How many games do you abandon?

I spend lots of time to find a perfect starting position. Then I try to stick with the game to the bitter end, because the real fun is when you have to struggle for a while. If I feel that i already lost, I will end it. I also tend to end it if I'm alone at an island/continent, since I prefer huge pangeas with all the other vis on it.

At a higher level than deity, the game is derailing, i.e. the number of things that can happen is rapidly diminishing. It's not civ anymore.
If you play at deity and the game is usually decided by 1000 BC (as one chap in this thread said) then you are certainly a great player. However, i doubt that the people who have already won in Ancient Age are playing deity.

I will abandon a game IF I start without fresh water and without a food bonsus. Both of those can effect the game.

After starting I may play until the middle ages or until a civ places a city 6 tiles from my capitol.

The next point where I may stop playing is I see that I have lost or my score is on top.

My main reason for abandoning games is my starting location, if I don't have Iron, Horses or any Sat resorce, I restart. I have bad luck with them.

Why? Not having those resources makes the game more interesting. You have to start a war to get them, or trade them if you are too weak to wage war. It makes for some interesting gameplay.

Well it very simple, I can't take the land because even thought I'm a head of them in tech alittle, I'm behind with weapons (no iron, no horse, no saltpeter), and they wouldn't trade with me, because I have nothing they want. If I have one or two I'll keep playing.

That's half the fun. You just need more archers, & some cats. Nothing a hord of catapults won't fix.

A while back I was in a SG called "The Resourceless somethings" (I forget, commandoes or something like that), anyways we couldn't hook up a single resource all game. We ended up wining by Domination.:D

I've only abandoned one game in recent memory, it was a couple weeks ago and I set everything even my CIv to random, but I think I accidentally added more AI, started on an average island with Iroquis, Rome, Vikings and Persia (right next to me), I took out Persia, but it used up so much of my resources, that when Rome and the Vikings came by I was spent, I would have finished the game, but the Vikings were taking too long to finish me, even though I love watching Berserks swing those axes.

Usually if I've gotten bored and the game is going to Modern age I just build the UN and try to win diplomatically, even if I lose, it ends the game.

Since I like comparing my score from civ to civ, I try to finish all my games.

Interesting how ppl restart maps a lot ot get a great map, where I've started to set almost all settings to random, to make it more interesting/exciting.

Sadly, I abandon most games. I play on tiny maps so I shall have the time to finish them, but still often I rather start a new one
