If I lose one war, then my power rating will surely be in the dumps after that beat down. Then some other AI will surely finish me off. If, by some act of God. I am not destroyed, I will surely rapidly become a "backwards" civilization considering that advantages the AI has.

I quit as soon as I lose one war.

I can't even imagine losing 3 wars and still being alive and independent. I never give the AI three wars--they are typically gone after 2, or at least vassalized. 1 is usually the case.
