How Many People Are Holding Back?

I know there are a lot of people around here who are excited about Civ 4 coming out.

I also know some people who like to avoid something as much as they can so that it's all the more surprising later on. Say, a movie that you're curious to see but stay away from trailers or people talking about it. Are there any people here who are purposely doing anything to make the contents of Civ 4 more of a surprise?

Just curious. :)

Probable, but you never know. ;) I know there are some people who stop by but don't read terribly much.

Your right I know there are some that arent reading very much, I can tell by some of the post's I've read,, LOL !!

P.S. I Should stop reading so much myself, :crazyeye: I would like a Surprise or two when I get the game!

Relatively, I suppose I am. I'm interested in any videos that are posted (to see what it looks like), but that's all i've bothered to check. The game specifics won't interest me until I actually have it.

I'm very excited about Civ IV, but also very worried. I just hope it turns out to be as great as we all want it to be.

I am very curious about the game.

But......

1) I have not played that much of Civ3.

2) I will need to upgrade my PC to play Civ4. (Current machine PII, 500MHz, 128RAM).

3) I am sure the mad-dog players will tear into Civ4 and find all sorts of things that are 'bugs', or at least 'buggy' and force some sort of patch to fix these things. I can wait for this to happen. (It should take about two weeks for the first patch, if I know the Civ Fanatic players.)

4) From this forum I have the sense that Vanilla Civ is almost not worth playing. I expect the same thing from Civ4. The first version will be OK, but not great. The second version will be much better.

I do expect Civ4 to be great.
I do not expect to get it until 2006.

Well, I want info. Although I'm most interested in game mechanics, I wouldn't mind waiting to be suprised by unit or city graphics - that would be kinda nice.

For me, part of the fun about Civ is reading abvout it, discussing it here...

As for Civ IV, to follow its "unfolding" is like "exploration" in the game - which is one of my favourite phase... :)

I think Civ IV is the one game (oops aside from Homeworld 3 dunno why but I love that series) that I will buy as soon as it is out. This forum has whipped up my excitment and I want to be able to discuss the experiences, both positive and negative, whit everyone else

I am holding back on finding out everything I can (I have my ways ;) ). I am not holding back on buying it as my preorder is already in.

I will not be buying it immediately because:

a) I will need to upgrade my machine before I can run it.
b) I am not going to make the mistake I made with Civ III and buying it immediately and then having to pay extortionate amounts for the expansion pack. Best wait for it all to be bundled together for a reasonable price.
c) I am somewhat concerned that the graphical engine is taking the lion's share of the overhaul whilst the AI will probably not be much better. I haven't yet heard of any changes to the game mechanics that make me really keen to get hold of it.

Same here - it's been pre-ordered for a good month or so now!

I'm buying it on release day (finally I have a cpu that is powerful enough to allow that!), and I read everything new that I can find.

Civ is one of those games that has so much to offer and so much to look forward to after it's initial release, with all the great mods and expansion packs in the future.

Me too have a new PC for Civ IV - and it is already now an advantage: I can play faster Civ3 games! :) like RFRE... or huge map games... this helps a lot in the coming 90 days... :)

After knowing too much about what we were going to be hit with in PTW and Conquests, I have deliberately kept my 'research' on Civ4 down to a minimum. None of my views or ideas if expressed would make a jot of difference to the development, why waste time giving them.

I am interested in having a "at-a-glance" idea of what is going on with it and wish the project all the best. However, I can't believe they've given it enough time and as for that person thinking they won't see it till 2006 - HA!

I know what you mean, I have ruined countless games that I have learned too much about such as Doom3, GT4, and Half-Life 2 all of which seemed, been there done that after about 5 minutes of gameplay simply because nothing surprised me.

Edit: and as much I feel that I am doing the same thing with Civ4 I think that the developers have kept alot underwraps in terms of indepth gameplay.

Yeah... as much as I think the graphics aren't going to be what I expected... I do look forward to it.

Religion for a chance... I had an idea a couple of years back for a civ-like game that had religion in it. :goodjob:

More or less, Civ4 is to be anticipated...
