I haven't played civ3 in a few years.

Same here, I haven't played Civ III in 4 years and I don't own Civ IV.

You should have had the option "I don't play Civ anymore" and that would get more responses than "never played it".

I agree, I voted "never played it" because that's the option that best reflects my situation.

The main requirement for a good board is lots of active members. I have been on lots of boards and most just die from lack of participation. The CIV community is large enough that lots of people read the board and comment.

The same is true for other places, like here:

http://www.arboristsite.com/

But frankly, the lack of diversity of opinion makes it less interesting. Like many places, it's an "echo chamber" where everybody has the same opinion, and swarms anyone else. So the diversity of the bunch here helps make the OT board more interesting.

And, dare I say it, CIV players tend to be more intelligent than average...though some of you clearly buck that trend! :D

GO! BUY! Civ III 1.29 or Civ III Conquests 1.15 are too fun to miss out on! Even if they do lower your GPA by an average of 0.5 points. ;)
Lies! Civ 3 actually raised my GPA by helping me get better grades in History! :D

I still play C3C and, like MjM, think Civ4 sucks. :p

"echo chamber" nice expression, I am going to use it.

I too like the attrition I get here from people of different backgrounds and cultures, that's is very interesting and hard to find.
Although sometimes I feel "swarmed" because of my opinions.

Played them all . Still play Civ IV BTS. Usually post in OT when I'm needing a break from gaming. So I come and go in an unpredictable cycle.

Ha! Yeah, the jury's still out on this one. It didn't do squat to my GPA, not a bit up or down. I've heard stories, though, of students people sacrificing their grades for 'just one more turn.' ;)

And yes, C3C 1.15 owns, Civ IV is ok at best.

I refuse to patch C3C to 1.22f! The resistance lives on!

Or, I could keep my GPA. There is always time for fun later. Plus, my other recreational pursuits suck up time.
I'm just messing with ya. ;) (But C3C does, broadly, have a slightly negative effect on GPA.)

I have C3C and Civ IV.

Civ IV is terrible. C3C is awesome.

I never play Civ IV anymore, but I do occasionally play Civ III every once in a while.

I played Civ2 a bunch in high school and the first few years of college. After my mission I discovered Civ3 and CFC at the same time; at first I played Civ a lot but as I posted here more, I started playing Civ less. Still do, occasionally.

 This surprised me, I didn't expect so many detractors in such a small sample.
I in fact bought C3C but never go to play it. I now think that I never will.

I like civ iv because of all the new stuff and the improvements made from civ3 but well c3c still strike me as better becuase I have found myself returning to it.

I think you'll find that people who hate CIV4 are CIV3 lovers. I loved CIV and CIV2, hated CIV3, love CIV4.

Civ IV was such a quantum leap forward from its predecessors, I can't imagine playing any of the previous versions. I adore Civ IV. I'm obsessed with it. I play it constantly. My favorite Civ IV mod is Fall from Heaven which makes even Civ IV seem not-so-fun in comparison.

Kindred spirits my friend.:goodjob:

I can't understand people who think CivIII was the best. That game was by far the worst of the series.

Darlin', the thing about quantum leaps is that they mark an abrupt change from one state to a distinctly different one, with no in-between transitional states being possible; however, they are not large. In fact, in physics, a quantum leap is one of the smallest sorts of changes worth talking about. Leave “quantum leap” to the subatomic physicists unless you know what you’re talking about.

Actually, given that definition, Civ IV seems to be the very embodiment of a quantum leap: abrubt transition from one state to another (particularly in graphics), with little distance gained (not a whole lot of actual improvement.)

...yep, it fits. :D

Been playing since 1 and just played a few turns earlier. I keep a game running the back while I work.

I couldn't play to Civilization because I never had any access to a computer in my life on the first place.

GPA is overrated.

Agreed. It isn't a sign of intelligence. A high GPA results from the drive to do good in school. Nothing more. I have seen to many dumb people with a high gpa's and many smart people with crap gpa's. The difference is drive.

played all Civ implementations including SMAC. It was just the type of game I was looking for and until Civ4, every new version grabbed my attention until the next would come out...well that changed and I don't understand how such an addictive game could be turned into such a thing like Civ4...it was as if they tried really hard to make all things fun unfun...all in the name of better balance and other crap...let's hope Civ5 will revive the old spirit.

My participation in playing Civ games is limited because my computer won't run Civ4.
