Comfortable? Monarch. Emperor for a challenge.
I'd be OK with anything from Regent to Emperor for the game.

Participated in some CivFanatics OSGs. Some private SGs with local friends. No full standard SGs yet.

AlanH said:

Principally builder.

I concur with dojoboy - new civ w/ Agr. I'd tentatively suggest Maya, to try out the Javelin Thrower at the same time - it's the most interesting new UU IMO.

As for maps, I incline towards bigger maps with not so many civs, and don't terribly care for Pangaea. All other settings I don't much care.

Another note - if we get many more people it seems like we may want to split into two games. Personally I'd incline towards doing that if we get more than 6 players.

P.S. My copy has shipped from Amazon via USPS. They estimate that it'll be delivered on the 23rd, but I'm sure that's a standard load of baloney - the USPS is slow, but not THAT slow.

(a)I have played Regent, but fairly comfortable at Warlord. A low level I know, but I play to have fun and try different historical scenarios. (b)Regent

No I actually have not, sounds intresting though.

builder definitely, although I like a lot of early on warfare if im playing Persia and have the Immortal.

medium size, I like continents(ground warfare is good), European

I would be interested in joining provided my copy arrives in a timely matter. I'm not 100% familar with all of the "givens" of strategy from the boards but I'll give it my best.

(a) Regent-Monarch (b) Regent-Monarch

No, but I've looked through plenty of SGs

Builder Primarily

I usually go Normal Map, Medium Continent or Large Archipelago, Temperate, and Warm but I'm up for anything.
For civs the Dutch or the Sumerians would be nice if we decided to go more towards building.

we seem to be a bit short of software right now.

I'm waiting until it looks like Amazon actually has it in stock. I place orders with them anyway every 3-4 weeks, so I expect to order it as soon as they have it.

I usually play at a low level, so i can try out different ideas without too much pressure. I'm willing to try anything, since we'll be helping each other.

This will be an entirely new experience for me.

AlanH said:

I play the same way I play chess, build up as long as I can, but when provoked go for the throat. I have the most fun looking for non-military solutions.

I like plenty of room to explore before I have to deal with too many neighbors. I like playing civs different from my own cultural grounding; if you couldn't tell from my avatar and signature my very favorite is the Indians. I have to agree with other's comments though, let's try one of the new civs.

Yeah, why not? I guess we just about have a quorum, though it would get dicy if we lose anyone, and we seem to be a bit short of software right now. Those expressing interest so far are (alphabetically):

AlanH, Beamup, Blue Monkey, dojoboy, MacBaldrick, Macintosh.

We might be able to boost the numbers with audsquad, Fredrico, or waltham845 who all asked, "what's an SG?".
Best way to answer that, if it was a serious question, is to point you to the What is a Succession game? thread.

It was a serious question, and I've read thru that thread. Looks like a lot of fun. Since I haven't played in a long time (and have never played Civ3), I will want to play a while on my own first, but would love to join an SG some time later.

I just called the local Apple store here, and they are "hoping" to receive their inventory of the game on Monday....

Hi all-
This whole succession game sounds fascinating when I read the thread suggested above. To answer AlanH's questions: I'm a lot like Waltham where I've played semi-successfully at Regent, but find most of my games at warlord. I'm willing to try anything though. No preferences otherwise on civ's game options or anything else.
As for playing style... well, I try to build up cities, send settlers out and try and keep the peace for as long as I can. When provoked, I fight like a wolverine in a dead end gully. I've played as Americans, then the French, Germans, Greeks, Persians and now I'm in Babylon mode.
I want to fool around with complete for a bit, when it gets here. As for those who did get overnight shipping I am green  with jealousy! Enjoy your weekend with no sleep! I'll go ski to plot and plan...

I've got the specs on the Maya right in front of me. They're Agr and Ind, best of new and old, IMHO.

The Javelin Thrower's (UU) stats are 2.2.1 w/ enslavement (chance of creating/enslaving workers from defeated enemy units). Given that, we may want to play w/ at least barbs set to restless because enslavement works with them as well. This could give us a huge worker advantage. And, since we're Ind, they'll work at a rate equal to non-Ind civs' workers, if this holds true from vanilla Civ3.

With Agr, we would want room to grow, so I recommend continents. Pangea would be good too, but I believe someone mentioned that they didn't care for pangea maps.

I vote rival civs to be set at random.

Remember that Ind has been drastically scaled back. It's only 50% now, not 100% faster.

Really? I'd always assumed it didn't work with barbs. If it does, great!

It was me that mentioned that. ;) I'd agree with those settings - Large/Huge Continents, ~8 random opponents maybe?

It doesnt.. first industrious only get 50% bonus in C3C instead of 100%.. 2nd.. slaves dont get the industrious bonus before you learn replaceable parts.
Slaves are free labor thou :) Just make sure you dont join a barbarian worker to a city btw.. because they are permanently unhappy :)

Since I only play w/ barbs set to where they can pop out of goody huts, i've never seen it myself. but, I've seen some screens where it's shown among the workers in the military screen.

Why dont you play with the Dutch? You get both of the C3C introduced traits, and a pretty good UU. The swiss mercanary is a 1.4.1 30 shield units which only needs iron.

i would have it on a standard map against the other new civs, on Monarch/Emperor level from what most people have posted as their comforatble level.

The Swiss Merc is a great unit. I particularly like it for harder levels. The attraction of the JT is its bonus, and the ability to perhaps spam workers to our advantage. Because of this, I feel we should at least play Monarch level.

Very important pieces of information. Thanks Gyathaar! :goodjob:
