Post us back in 7 years, then we'll see what you say;) (belive me CIV is the most addictive thing ever, once you start you can't stop):king:

Whats your adress, I'll mail you my disk. I can stop anytime I want.

I remember the original Civ came out when I was in high school. Me and my buddies used to sneak into the computer lab and play Civ all through lunch hour (and sometimes through class).

I also remember introducing games like Sim City and Civ to my grandfather, and he played both right up until he died. You're never too old.

29. Wow do you really have to wait till 21 in the states? I mean the 18 limit is totally uninforcable in the uk, cant imagine 21 being inforced... So you can graduate from uni, join tha army and complete basic training and still not be allowed a pint to celibrate?

24, you can also buy cigarettes, a gun, shoot somebody, get the death penalty before you are legally allowed to get your first drop.....

The problem isn't drinking the alcohol, it's getting the alcohol. Not difficult if you're in college or have a lot of older friends. But it can be very tough if you're underage in the US. Thankfully, that's no longer my problem. ;)

You Americans are sooooo prudish. Here, in Quebec (a "state" within Canada), when you reach 18, you're totallllly an "adult", with all the rights & privileges.

By the way : The legal age of sexual consent in all of Canada is...14. Much less prudish.

Yeah!!! But I think it kinda weird!!! I had and mean HAD a friend of 21 who went out with a 14 years old... the whole story is very strange but the bottom lines is that it feel like "pedophilia" to me... Even if its legal... its still in my humble opinion on the EXTREME edge of child abuse. I'm a montrealer too and PROUD of our 18 years old legal drinking but this one is kinda freak me out!! Maybe I'm too prudish!

I was in the 18-30 when I bought this killer new game called Civ (Civ I that is!)

In most countries the age limit for alcohol drinking/purchasing is from 16 to 18. Here in Finland it's 18 or 20 depending on the amount of alcohol. Few countries has limit of 21 years. Those countries include of course USA, then Ukraine, Tunisia, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Belarus etc... :p

I'm 24, married, homeowner... and love to play games. I actually think that the older you get the more fun they are, as we need a break from Life... or is that Wife... You get the pt.

I have played every Civ game and Alpha Centuri, and by far Civ 4 is the best. I just hope that all the kinks will be out in a couple of months.

Game play about 10 hrs a week, and i hope that i will still be playing till the day that i die.

Bear down Wildcat! Barbslinger and I were at Gentle Ben's after the UCLA blowout!! I know of 3 Wildcats on CFC and I'm trying to convince one of my buddies that Civ4 is better than Age of Empires II so we may have a 4th soon. We are (2 ancient ages - 7 modern ages)
Now go back and study....by the pool. :D

Perhapse 21 may seem a bit high to drink in the US, but what are the rates of alcoholism in countries with lower drinking ages? We changed the drinking age to 21 back in the mid-80's because we had a lot of problems with people who couldnt make good choices when drinking - drinking and driving, for instance.
Now thats not restricted to college age drinkers to be sure, but it forces some limits on people, many of whom are away from any parental control for the first time. Drinking isnt evil, but its one of those stupid things that can get you killed, and the age limit gives people a little time to adjust to being on their own.
Besides, its not like Americans are missing much. Most of what we drink in this country is a weak 'beer-like' product; Bud, Coors, Miller. So what if you have to wait four more years to drink Bud. There are outstanding American beers - Magic Hat's Phat Angel, for instance, has a very similar flavor to that of Bass - but most Americans seem to favor beer-flavored water to real beer.

Well comming from the UK we are surrounded by countries with lower age limits and better attitudes towards it.

In Canada you have to be 19 to drink.

2 more weeks for me!

Not in all of Canada. Here in Alberta it's 18.

As to Roxinate's comments, people are more prone to take responsibility for their own actions when they are given that responsibility. You teach a kid how to drink responsibly, and they're less likely to start binge drinking as soon as they reach college, where their only "role models" are other college kids who are slightly older than them and have only just been given the freedom to drink legally themselves. The age limit doesn't give people any time to adjust. First they're not allowed and then suddenly they are. I'll give you one guess what this leads to. :crazyeye:

What these kids really need are responsible drinking mentors, who can also steer them away from cheap swill like Bud or Coors. My cousin just turned 18, and I felt it my duty to take her out and introduce her to her first pint of Guinness. Of course, I have no illusions that previous to her 18th she was sneaking out into farmers fields with a 2-6 of Big Bear and getting hammered with all her 16-17 year old buddies, which is why it's even more important.
