K, henrycccc, no. They can play video games even and have girlfriends at the same time. -.- On topic though, I'm 12. :)

Hey, I have been playing civ since I was like 10 (14 now{fifteen soon:)})or something (around civ 3's release date[horrid at remembering names and times]) on civ 3 and could win a few times on regent and once on prince (one of my proudest moments at that age) but I did mainly screw around on chieftan or warlord:D so I have faith in the "kids" of the thread being able to play civ but also I have like an IQ of 162 (brilliant:) but not quite genius:() and the elders could most certainly kick my butt anyday and I do admit I use captions (way) more than necessary.

ancient 40 year old. I play one hour a week but i read alot of the material at work

17 and a half here. I started playing summer'04. I play late at night(morning actually) so it won't interfere with the rest of my life, or maybe 'cuase i'd get comments if I played all day. Little henryccc may not be still reading this thread but I understand his first impulse to criticize our elders. I've been trying keep that impulse down along with the " I know everything" syndrome (which is not limmited to teenagers) since i was 13.

Okay...I'm 53, and not only have I been addicted to Civ for about five years, I'm deeply involved in dragging other over 40 folks into the fold. I feel all warm and fuzzy until they start kicking my tail on a regular basis.

37.

I'm just curious: for you people over 18, do you play civ during work or on your own time? If you play it during work, I want to know where you work.

Work is work. It leaves plenty of time in the rest of the day for the good stuff (family, exercise, creative hobbies, Civ) if you don't choke it up with junk (television, workoholism).

This thread has been a most interesting read - I'm surprised to make it through all 10 pages in one go... too much free time today, it seems.

I'm 27, dedicated to civ since civ 1´s blocky square units, living with my GF, happily employed in a creative environment for several years now. While playing at work is definitely out of the question, lurking around the forums is certainly possible.

As michael4000 very wisely states, there is always time available to do the things that you like if you take control of your own time, and prioritize accordingly.

No way to play at work but with the advent of email and internet I've learned the three r's of multi tasking. "Reading", "writing" and "rambling on the phone" all at the same time. :D

LOL, you actually expect someone to say they play it at work when they can get fired for it? *Looks around nervously* Actually most work computers wouldn't be able to handle it anyway, due to video cards for business machines are ususally generic ones, unless you work at a place that does graphic designing or such.

I'm surprised to hear some of y'all are so young. Maybe Civ attracts a lot of unusually well-educated, eloquent young people.

... along with fluffy-tailed old miscreants like me. =^_^=

Back to work now. (I pick my own hours. Goal completion is what counts.)

I love the sentiment...but if I stop playing would you explain to my wife, children and grandchildren why I'm out dating ?

According to the poll ..there are more "ancients" playing than people under 18....Has Civ caused a decline in the birthrate? :mischief:

I'm 26 and have been playing video/comp games since I'm 6. Reading the threads in this forum reminded me of some of the games I used to play... One on One was the only game I could beat my big brothers at and I get that Karateka/bird joke!

I now understand the meaning of: I've forgotten more than you'll ever know!!

To me it's not about how old/young you are but experience (Newbie vs Veteran and the type of games you play/played) that make you "ancient".

As for getting a life... well it's kind of a non-issue at some point 'cause you'll only ever get so far in a relationship with a NPC... know what I mean... wink wink... that itch you just can't scratch... aaah never mind, wait till puberty hits!

In the words of P.Diddy: "It's good to play together", X-Box commercial, circa 2003.

Hmm, 1989 would have been two full years before the DOS release.

AFAIK the Atari ST version was released in 1993. It could get terribly slow in the endgame. A friend of mine had the Amiga version and couldn't complete many games because of crashes in the endgame, so he kind of envied me (and bough a PC shortly after ;) ).

The Atari ST version was first reviewed in an old computer mag called 'Computer Games Monthly' in November 1989, so it was almost 1990. I bought it in 1990, but I never played it on the PC or the Amiga (which I also owned). ST & Amiga games were often released much earlier than PC games back then...the 4-colour cyan and magenta CGA graphics of the PC didn't really turn on the average gamer those days :p

Luckily, I'm that rare, ancient bird who's work and personal time are one and the same, as I own my own gamestore. I sometimes play at work, when the load is light, but do most of my gaming at home. My work PC isn't quite up to the specs of my home units, it only has an ATI 9600 video card.

But, my business is gaming, so I may not be a good example.

FWIW, just last week, I traded a hot MtG single to a buddy who works for EB for the CivIV standee, which they weren't using. Man, is that thing cool!

Getting old doesn't mean you have to grow up.
