    RE: Infinite friendship/alliance

I noticed under the May patch on a few occasions that the AI would refuse to renew their friendship/alliance (on the turn they ended or later).
I think the common thread was that I was also friend with their enemy. (This is however very anecdotal evidence.)
If confirmed, it sounds like one step in the right direction...

    But but you're a civ player! ;)

Anyhow, see you in a bit then. Although one thing we may agree on is that the -40 modifiers for different ideologies makes a lot more sense now. But honestly, it still is far less toxic than many other places, even on this very site.

"Our ideological differences are only the beginning. I cannot approve of the way you play this game"

    - Gandhi, probably.

Great line, wish more people would admit to it, respect.... You forgot to add the one where someone attacks you T15-20 at the same time that barbs are raiding you.
There is a file (I think it may only be active with a switch in the options file) which shows some weightings. I have had a little play of late but its a lot of messing around. Certainly the threat and trust one could affect this alliance but noit enough testing done.
Alliances were often not refreshed a couple of patches ago and people could not explain it but it does seem to be around who else you are friends with, what promises you broke and hopw warlike you were. Sadly that attitude disappeared a while ago. There is that eureka for having a L2 alliance which is damn hard to get on a faster game that would become even harder if they were not keen on renerwing. I suggest always make a deal with people even if its not what they originally asked for, certainly seems to help.

Good god. Imagine having to honestman this much just to have some semblance of a challenge in a game.

Better civs exist guys. Did you know that? Not ones where a bunch of 24 year olds got in a room and made a game based off 'great ideas', with bad execution. So sad. Might as well play Settlers of Catan.

This is a spot-on take. You can tell young and clueless people had way too much influence on Civ VI from how every bit of written text in it reads straight out of a high school paper. The UI reeks of "UX design" from the mobile game handbook where efficiency and information density is shunned out of fear for looking "daunting" to new(stupid) players. The AI is bottom priority because good AI doesn't make money from the casual target audience. The game is dumbed down in almost every sense that matters, even as it gets bloated with more and more poorly designed features that give it a false sense of complexity. Giving the player a million tiny values to minmax doesn't make it deeper, just more tedious.

builder then settler. Given that many forests in my capital I expect no horses, so I need a settler to grab some horses.

Wait a second - an AI declared a cassus belli? Can't say I've ever seen that.

I called you out for your treatment of people as a homogenous whole, and deliberately separated the exploit part to refer to only lily. You also assume people have magically called out lily for no reason, instead of having argued the same tired points with him for years...

Anyway, this thread needs to die. The premise is flawed.

Canada cannot declare a surprise war. Also, lily denounced the AI as soon as he met them. He also did the same thing to Gilgmesh as Mali (and propmtly got wiped out).

I know all that, but I didn't think the AI ever declared cassus belli even after somebody has been denounced. That's what makes (made?) Canada literally immune to declarations of war when in human hands.

Granted, I've never started right next to Canada so maybe this has always been a possibility and I just didn't realize it.

Building some slingers to defend the Canadian warmongers.

I don't pillage, Canada pillages me.

Capital: Builder-- settler-- slinger --slinger --builder -- settler -- monument--horsemen

choose the new pantheon, not sure how powerful it is. I have 4 stones so maybe choosing stone circle is better, but I'm just testing the new pantheon.

It is just a normal formal war. If Canada could not use it, they would be unable to declare war.

Yeah pretty much. Sad. There are really nice ideas in Civ 6 which could've been so much more. Reading the OP blew my mind. What in the hell am I looking at? When so many central mechanics are so poorly balanced and conceived that they're considered exploits, and people are contriving to 'challenge' themselves by not using them. Like, how freaking desperate are you guys to play this game? Do you not know what else is out there? Or are you just playing because it's the newest and the shiniest, and the quirky dev release videos make you feel part of something new and fresh? I'm not actually perplexed by why kids play it- it's obvious to anyone, but it's like my brain would rather be perplexed than spontaneously combust

Goodness, could you try to be a bit more patronising?

Perhaps people enjoy it, despite its flaws. What a revelation.

People can literally enjoy anything despite their flaws, doesn't mean the game doesn't represent bad game design and badness in general. Yours is a non-argument and it bores me

I've never quite understood what motivates people to be so unnecessarily aggressive on a forum about something as a trivial as a videogame - whatever it is, I hope it works out for you.

As for Lily's game, I'm not especially interested in the use (or not) of 'exploits' but I am very interested to get a closer look at how Lily plays, because it's certainly on a different level to me!
