How POWERFUL is you computer?

Ah, a fellow mac man. Are you running Bootcamp to play BTS? Anyway, Macbook Pro 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, GeForce 8600M GT. Works like a charm, surprisingly.
Edit: Any thoughts on Alienware? I heard they came out with a new M17.

Damn you guys got powerful macs. I got an original Macbook Core Duo 2 GHz with 2GB of RAM. runs fine, though I do get slowdowns and sometimes have to tone down the graphics settings.. But it runs (under Bootcamp) :D

Yes, Boot Camp. I tried the Mac version of vanilla Civ + Warlord, too bad BtS won't be adapted.

I'm running a decent rig myself

Asus P5K mb
Intel E8400 3g @4g
4g (4x1g)G.Skill cl4 pc6400 4-4-4-12
Asus EN9600gt TOP (Factory oc’d 720mhz)
Antec NSK6580 mid-tower case w/OCZ GameXtreme 700w powersupply
Xigmatek HDT-S1280 cpu cooler
Sony DVD RW, Asus DVD RW
WD 250G 7200rpm, WD 200g 7200rpm, WD 120g 7200rpm, WD 300g 7200rpm

A couple are raid0 running Vista(seriouly thinking going back to XP) I've tested BTS on a huge map, the 18civ1000ad i think, buts fps is good too.

Note: isn't this question in the wrong forum?

Well, seems as if I had the least capable machine around here:

Athlon XP 1800+, effectively running at 1.53 GHz
768 MB DDR1 RAM
ATI Radeon 8500, actually I'm pretty proud of that one
My hard disc (40GB) is pretty crowded now, so Windows has to really look for some space when outsourcing temp memory from the RAM to the HDD... :P

Civ4 runs fine on standard settings, takes about 90 seconds to start up and about 10 to 20 minutes per turn on standard size maps in late game... :(

I just have 512 ram and it looked like the main factor that cause mine lag a lot:cry:

Asus P5N-T Deluxe Mobo
Intel E8400, OC'd to 3.6 ghz
Asus 8800 GTS 512 X2
4Gigs OCZ Titanium
Seagate Barracuda ES 750gigs X2
Benq FP241VW 24"

Sony FW140D - 2 months ago
P8400 Centrino2 2.26, 3GB(DDR2 PC6400), ATI HD3470 256MB, 250GB(5400), 16.4(1600x900), Vista32(5.1 Rating)

TOSHIBA A70 - 5 years ago
P4-3.06, 1.5GB, ATI 9000 Shared, 40GB(5400), 15(1280x800), 2000Pro

Sony is 3X faster than Toshiba. Toshiba is only playable/enjoyable on Tiny/Small size of maps with 4-6 Civs.

Q. How POWERFUL is you computer?
A. I is very POWERFUL. All your base are belong to us.

Seriously, 3GHz Mac Pro Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM (thought I had 4GB but I just checked) :( , ATI Radeon HD 3870. Running BtS under Bootcamp with Windoze XP. :badcomp:

Works really well.

I'm betting my comp is a bit overpowered for playing civ, but then again I "might" play other games hehe..

Core 2 Duo 3.16 (E8500) (@3600mhz)
2 gb ddr2 pc9200 (@1111mhz)
Geforce GTX 260 (@625/2100mhz)
900 GB s-ata II hdd's
22'' Samsung widescreen flatpanel

Love this site btw ...

Your RAM is a bit out of proportion to the rest of your system. If you told me just the other specs, I would have guessed you had 64bit/4GB+ RAM.

I got Vista installed also, mostly for try-n-try stuff, a 64bit version, tried it sometime ago with 4gb of ram.

You'd suggest I use less powerful ram or ?

wow your computer is an absolute overkill for BtS. Have you tried running Crysis? Although u might wanna get a bit more RAM for that.

I'm a pc gamer so need to be able to play all games:

Q6600 @ stock ( for now :))
4GB Geil Ultra low latency PC6400 cas4
8800GTS 512mb G92@ stock ( will need upgrade soon I guess)
2300GB of hdd space (over 6 hdd's, includes 2 striped drives for games)
Dual boot xp pro 32 bit and Vista ultimate X64
2 small (17'') Monitors ( needs an upgrade, I'm itching to buy a 26'' to replace the 2x 17' ers but I'm broke :p)
Soundblaster audigy 2 ZS and Logitech Z5500's.
Razer Diamondback 3g frost blue mouse.
Logitech G11 gaming keyboard
El cheapo ps2 imitation controller for pc.

Also have a backup laptop which I sometimes play civ4 on:
Amd Athlon X2 1.9ghz
2gb ram
Integrated ati x1150 up to 878 ( or so) mb hypermemory.
15'' 1280x800 screen
Vista home premium 32bits

C2Duo 8500 running at 8x500mhz = 4Ghz
4GB DDR2 PC8000 memory running at 1000mhz
ATI 4870 512mb
22" Samsung @ 1680x1050
Vista 64 Home Premium

Might seem a little OT for Civ IV but I do play other games and with such a spec I do find it helps a great deal in reducing the time between turns at the latter stages of my games.

you said you had 2GB RAM. I would have assumed you had 4 or more GB with those other specs.

I ordered a new laptop last week with much lower CPU and GPU than yours (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz, Ati Radeon HD 3650) and it only cost me €20 to max out the RAM to 4GB from 2GB. (damm Dell for not selling 64bit Windows in Ireland).
