How the hey do you upload custom avatars?

This is a question that I have found puzzling, even maddening, forcing me to go nights without sleep. Most of the threads I see concerning avatars seem to be about how to pick a regular one.

But how to upload a custom one? Is this like attaching an image to a post?

And a final request: if anyone, anyone, could help me find a picture of Ruby Red the Tomato*, that would be great.

*Ruby Red is a character used on IGN.com a while back. He is a tomato with a monocle, top hat, and white gloves.

There's an upload option similar to attachments or you can enter a URL although if I read the screen correctly, the server grabs a local copy on this second option.

Don't forget, you need at least 300 posts before you can have a custom avatar.

Once you get at least 300 posts, go to your UserCP, then "Options." Scroll all the way down to the bottom, and it should be self-explanatory from there. (But ask if you need any more help, of course.)

I think I can figure out your instructions on how to upload a custom avatar.

I would like something like this one, I just want the seal if possible. It doesn't have to be this particular one, but one using the seal of one of the Choctaw nations.

Preferred choice is the first one, or a better copy of it, minus the green stuff at the bottom corners.
