I just finished playing a deity occ game. i managed to surive and was the first to discover chemistry. So i started pumping out privatters. I build a total of 35.

So no need to declare war I started to blockade ai ports. And all of their costal cities started to pump out caravels :D . And none of them did recearch chemistry for a long time.

And by the time they got chemestry my pirvatters had loads of xp. So killing fregats was no problem. This did realy cripple their production since all of their costal cities was producing naval units wich i sunk easy whitout going to war :D.

And as a extra bonus this gave me a few great generals

If you want to try this remember to send a stack of 5 ships atleast so you can go to neural of friendly terretory to heal. Is also nice to have medic 1 on a ship. (by the time ai had fregats most of my pirvatters had combat 5 so they healed an extra 10% in emeny terretory.)

I have done this but I found that even if I move my privateers to friendly territory other civs try and destroy them. I also think its just silly that the ai does not make a fleet to try and attack my privateers but only produce one, then send it out against my stack 1 at a time.

The Caravel spam is one of the more exotic behaviors our BTS AI is showing. :D

how did you manage to build so many in an OCC game? thats a serious comittment no? I find that I usually have so much to build, theres no time for military. Were you playing at not 'narmal' speed?

Good job with the privateers, I love stacking them, and then sitting in a spot that nets you 3 AI cities, I didnt have a lot of privateers but I was still bringing in 24 gp/turn until they got frigates...

I find it interesting that Monty will build a caravel and attack,
but Hannibal might stack three before he tries to break out.

I've seen both use airship support for their caravels against privateers.
