I've seen people place BFCs and sometimes simple notations on the civ map to plan cities (I think its called dotting the map). Is there a certain hot key for this? I've looked at the hot key articles and did not find my answer. I'd appreciate it if anyone can help me out...Thanks

D/l the BUG MOD, which has an inbuilt dotmapping function. Otherwise, you can go into the strategy layer and manually draw lines, etc.

i would greatly recommend the BUG mod (linked previously) as it stands for BTS unaltered gameplay. So it really only provides you with information that is already given or provides tools (like dot-mapping) that just make your life easier.

the best way is to trade maps with your enemies. if you see one of HIS cities, thats where YOUR cities will be. lol jk :) Im pretty sure its ALT-X but thats only for the BUG mod

I couldn't disagree more strongly.

The AI is rubbish at settling in good locations. It's often better to raze and replace unless city contains WoW.

Alt+S to make notations, zoom out and draw lines to find the optimal settling strat.

What are you people on about? "Draw lines"?

Is this another BUG feature or have I been missing something completely here? Apparently, you learn something every day...

If you zoom out of the map until you go into globe view, click on the strategy layer button...

You can now use the options that appear avove the button to draw lines or make signs as so...

Though the drawing lines function is a bit clunky.

Drawing lines and adding signs doesn't require BUG but the dotmapping tool does.

Prior to installing BUG (and figuring out how to use Alt-X...) I always dot-mapped in either the strategy lair by drawing lines - or I'd do a bunch of screenshots with the overhead view and edit them in an image editing program.

BUG is a lot easier.

Thanks for the info. I've always wondered how this was done. i thought people used photoshop or something at first, then I was following another persons game play and they kept referring to Dot Maps and search gave me this post. luckily I already use BUG. Maybe I should RTFM for once. lol

Again, thanks
