This post is in response to some poor gameing experience's

Here is a list of lessons to be learned to fully enjoy this beautiful game.

the fun involved with this experience develops from watching your carefully planed strategy either come to fruition, or get turned on its rear end.

Either way the excitement is in watching the response to your planing
and countering with new plans.

in order to enjoy this game as an outsider you must first realize that there is no Hollywood esque b movie story line.

there is simply you and your people standing against relentless opponets atempting to subvert your existance into slavery.

is that not enough ?

you are the undisputed ruler of your people
this game is more about matching wits than mashing buttons.

the skill it takes to get 50 headshots in any fps can be taught to a primate.(not that its not fun ) however the thinking necessary to propel your cavemen into space is not/

if you want to truly enjoy your experience with this game play it on at least king

lastly there really is no big climax at the end to pursue. no final boss, no endearing story arc. there is simply an extended sense of power accomplishment and achievement, that you out thought over produced and undermined those who stood to oppress you.

ultimately playing this game just to reach the end is a sad waste of time

you should play this game with the expectation to be ready for anything.

no set strategy is all powerful!!! you must be flexible stepping outside of your normal routine is what makes you a champion!

Have fun everybody:D

People in multiplayer games definitely need to take this advice... I see people quit all the time if they start on an island not connected to a main continent, if an opponent manages to take someone else's capital, or if someone beats them to a particular Wonder. It's pretty freakin annoying.

Awesome advice! I was just glad that I finally beat the French in this one game I was having. They were too firmly entrenched in their own cities for me to even touch and they were out-teching me so my poor archers were being set upon by columns of catapults!

MY other strategies were never gonna work (they were all based on the fact that I had more tech and less caution). So I adapted and when I finally finished the game, I had cities fighting over which wonder I was gonna build for the win.

Just a little humorous note, when the game ended, my capital was the 3rd best city! It was beaten by 2 of my own cities!
