Welcome to Civ7 Game of the Month

Perhaps limit GotM to a single age?

Or have 3 different saves? One starting on each different age.

So we all get to play the same game on each age, better for comparisons I think.
I dont see anyway to have three age saves as we would be locked into what ever the GOTM staff play for each age. A single age could work, but that will obviously be a totally different game from what fraxis designed

Great discussions. I have already shared my thoughts on the staff forum so you can repost here or not as you see fit. I am not qualified (is anybody) to know what makes sense for a friendly competition at this point. I think the game has been updated a couple times, certainly more to come, so you might want to stipulate which version the game should be played under.

New to GoTM, how do I get "registered" to play? or do I just grab the save file and play and then post the result before the time limit expires?

I've played 10,000's hours of civ since Civ I, however I don't think I've seen this thread before. Do you do Succession games too?

The GOTM Staff will be able to answer your questions, but to give you an idea of how GOTM has worked in the past, you might want to look at the Civ 6 GOTM Forums, or the Civ 5 GOTM Forums.

Pretty much grab the save file and play and post results. :)
Due to the structure of the save files and the way the .dll's work, we have been unable to create a mod to check for cheating nor a parser to automatically register results.

For Civ3 and 4 we sponsored succession games. However, due to the above limitation, we have not done so since Civ4.

Wonder what you have in mind. Fastest win seems a bit awkward in this version. Finding more interest in trying to fill as many points as possible through the legacy points.
My initial thought after playing a couple games is the goal is still fastest win, but only counting turns in Modern Age. It seems getting more legacy points in earlier ages is the goal, but only by making it easier in the modern age. With the latest patch it didn't seem as important, but in my first game getting too many legacy advancements in the modern age made me rush to get an actual victory condition that wasn't score. Thoughts?

fastest win in modern age with a defined (ie...science) victory condition ? Or fastest win in modern age with any victory condition ?

I just don't think it's as interesting as it used to be as it puts way more emphasis on the last age.
Maybe I'm alone here but I think civ7 is actually at its best for score victories lol (counting all ages) considering how time has been made much less compressible, even more so if you don't count the previous ages. Maybe with the exception of science victory which you cannot rush as soon as you enter Modern.
Let's run the first game however you want but open it to other suggestions for the first handful of games to see what the community finds more interesting.

I would like to see Score victory included as one of the regular rotation of victory types to aim for, but I think I agree with Eyswein that specific victory types feel more comparable, especially for a first couple of games.

In my opinion, I think it is better if we have a designated civ path through each age. I understand it might be too restrictive but I really enjoy the comparability between every game. I would love to see how we can compare strategies with the Chola, or strategies with the Mongols, or Prussians, etc etc. If everyone has a different civ then I don't think there will be much value in comparing games. We're all playing entirely different games at that point.

Also agree with non mementos.

Everything is so new, so all suggestions and input are welcome. It would be a triumph in my opinion if the initial game gives us a framework to compare our results competitively and we all learn how to make the Civ7 game a fun way to compare all the choices we "should" have done, and improve our enjoyment of the new playing field. I learn with every turn, even if I still have no idea if my choices were good ones. :old:

Also, I suspect we have a few months of updates before things get stable enough to make true comparisons useful to everyone. What should the final age aim for? Fastest finish, highest score, both? And how do we ensure the games remain comparable throughout? We shall see... and staff will do all in our power to make it so. :badcomp:

Final Age and Exp Age spoilers would be useful... not there yet myself but would be good to have.

Hi there. Nice to see you're already moving forward with GotM. I was expecting some delay based on how Civ6 launched and was so busy playing the game that i didn't check these boards earlier
