How to "historicaly" unify the empire?

I don't know a whole lot about the period, but I tought that the Sima family seize power in Wei and then goes on to reunify, at least briefly, the Chinese empire. I want to play an historical game but it seems that we can't play as the Sima family, so I was wondering which faction should I start to achieve an "historical" victory?

Wei, I would say. Sima's rise to power largely came from w/in the Wei empire, as near as I can remember.

Play as Cao Cao - Wei: clear the central plains, defeat Yuan Shao, invade the riverlands, defeat Wu and Shu. Then the Sima take over and steal the show.
