How to: Password files

It depends, PDF, as well as Microsoft Office have options to enable password protection, another way is by compressing it to an archive. For example, with 7-zip, you can right click on a file you want to compress, select "Add to Archive" and enter a password in the pop-up...

I like truecrypt, but it's more used for encrypting and password protecting multiple files

When you have relatives that feel really angry at you, really angry, they may decide to delete all files that they know have to be bought back, like, say, a game that was a digital download, minus one disk. And no, the computer dosn't have any pornographic content on/in it.

well, Password protecting files wont prevent them from being deleted, at least I dont think it will. Your best bet in that case is to have a separate account. Or keep your files backed up.

Or switch to Linux, where you can run several user accounts with no difficulty, and manage your files' rights pretty easily. :) You know : the drwxrwxrwx thingie.
