I guess the key for playing Australia is to make use of the +100% bonus. Of course if sb. captures a CS you just liberate it. However what if no CS for you to liberate?

Key Strategy :
1. Try to let your enemy declare on you. Don't build soldiers. Gift them open borders so that their troops go inside your border and verify that there aren't any soldier so declare on you is profitable. Also don't forget to denounce them so they are more likely to declare on you.

2. Capture cities. This may trigger emergency, if anyone else accept the emergency (since he is denounced by you he his more likely to accept), he count as declare on you, then you get the bonus.

That is a big part of the Aussie bonus, but you can just ride it out with its coastal city housing boon and +adjacency for good terrain if no one is looking for a fight

When there is a hiatus towards the end of a (marathon) game liberating City States is an easy way to accelerate spaceport production and GDRs.
It's like Firaxis has people who can see into the future of the real world!

1. Choose Australia;
2. Win like a boss;
3. Post a screenshot on reddit titled "too easy", showing ridiculous adjacency, Outback Station porn and an ungodly amount of production on your cities;
4. enjoy the karma;

The AI have a tendency to declare war on City States you just liberated since they're vulnerable, so you might be able to liberate the same CS 2 or 3 times, if you just let them conquer it. Ignoring walls is also a good way to attract war and off course, avoid friendships/alliances, mostly with your neighbors. Adding more Civs than that map size recommend is a good way to force the AI to conquer one another early, same for adding more City States. More cities conquered = more opportunities to liberate. You can also use the levy mechanic to both leave City-States exposed for an attack and to easily reach far areas of the map to liberate cities there (why move an army there when you have City-state units sitting right where you need?). Now getting into really gimmick territory, you can declare war on a CS yourself, which will provoque other Civs and let you take down that CS defense, both units and walls, turning it into an attractive target to the AI. Just leave the poor CS there, completely naked of any defense.
