how to update mods?

It seems that certain mods that i installed several month ago and where there have been already newer versions of the mod posted do not become updated.

is there a way to trigger this?

If you've downloaded them from the Steam Workshop, then I think you should be able to update them via the Steam Workshop.
If they're from here, then you have to get rid of them and reinstall them manually.
