Thanks to AlanH, Mac users now have a modified version of the HoF Mod to run on our machines. This is good, I believe, since the Civ4/C4W GOTMs are requiring it from now on. I've read where it greatly enhances the processing time for GOTM submitions while increasing security.

But for me, the player, how does this mod help me? How do I use the information, and what seems like a lot of information, gathered from the suite of mods to become a better player? Is this the purpose?

Thanks in advance, for intelligent replies. ;)

P.S. I posted here for lack of a better qualified subforum, IMHO. :)

I suppose it was nice to have a link to the HOF forum, but I didn't see a thread on how to use the mod.

for info on how to use the mod, perhaps you should check out the HOF mod is mandatory in GOTM thread in this forum, it has some pretty good advice on how to use it, what everything is, and how exactly it helps you.

here's the link to the thread, just to make it easier :)

Well from what I can tell, this mod offers me a bug fix and the admins simplicity and security. Oh, and I can use an auto-log to copy/paste.

I'll use it.

if it is fairly identical to the PC HOF mod, then it also gives you access to more detailed information in your domestic and foreign advisors.

It has all the main features of the PC version, but it doesn't have Options tab HOF3, which is mostly HoF-specific. The only survivors from the HOF3 tab are the Reminders, and the ability to switch the flashing end-of-turn message on or off (:hmm:), and I've squeezed them onto HOF1.

I've also tweaked the Special Domestic Adviser screen to remove the gaps at top and bottom, which looks neater, and adjusted the Options screen so that it doesn't need scrolling or expanding if you have a half-decent screen resolution.

Since I haven't played any significant amount of Civ4 yet, I can't really advise on its use, but it does offer a lot of the things that CivAssist II or CRpMapStat provided for Civ3 players ....

  • lots more in-game information is readily available rather than having to dig around from screen to screen to track it down.
  • alerts are provided for imminent city growth or unrest, and for AI trading opportunities.
  • you can record To-Do notes as Reminders to be shown N turns ahead.
  • there's an improved city screen layout that stacks specialists instead of lining them up in long rows.
  • autologger records most of the events you might want to know about later when writing a Spoiler or doing a post mortem on a game.
