How to choose a civilization

How to explore

How to make diplomacy work

How to deal with barbarians

How to get help (not regarding your Civ addiction)

Sooooo... the advanced tutorials they spoke of very early didnt make it? :p

Have we seen the crouching tiger cannon stats before? Around 1:23 "deal with barbarians" video- 30 melee strength, 50 ranged strength, 1 tile attack radius

I'm not sure I'd be interested in official advanced tutorials. These are clearly for the basics for non-Civfanatics. I'd prefer to figure out the game myself, and maybe watch some advanced videos later produced by the players, rather than the developers.

Well, of course for an advanced civ player this is of lesser importance, but I remember them early saying something along the lines of having improved tutorials for beginners.
Also, whenever there are tutorials, even if I know the game well, I cant keep myself from doing them anyway for completion.

Very basic stuff about the game. Not as interesting for me as I hoped, but nevertheless fine for the "civfanatics-resupplies" ;)

What does she have against Egypt? No early defensive options? Is the Maryannu Chariot Archer not a thing?
Also when and why did they make Egypt teal? This colour is way over-used with America, Sumeria, Norway, France, Rome and Greece all being some minor variation of blue.

These videos are kind of annoying and have put me in a sour mood this morning :coffee::gripe:.

I hope they release something worthwhile before launch.

I guess I'll skip the other videos, because I think the "How to choose your civilization"-video made me lose some IQ-Points. :D

Just because we knew the core game mechanics doesnt mean that most of the targetted gamers knew, getting into Civ is a daunting task especially for those who will be playing this game for the first time this weekend

Well, just watched the Exploration video and it's a lot more reasonable, and actually DOES explain the basics.

The Civ-Video was literally just: "Read the bonuses and pick what suits your strategy!"

Definitely, and watching a series like this, you really appreciate how much basic knowledge we probably completely take for granted. Efforts really need to be made to make the game as accessible as possible, it's a fundamental principle of design.

But is this really the best way to inform these people? Is anyone with no prior experience in strategy games really trawling around youtube watching pre-release videos of a game they have no context to understand and appreciate? Is feeding them a few basic concepts in a vacuum without providing them an over-view of what this genre is like really going to teach them anything? Do they even want to be taught anything at this point? Or should they instead be enticed, in order to want to learn for themselves upon release?
What value do these have for ANYONE else?
What value do these maintain after 5 minutes of play from even the complete beginner?
These videos are practically garbage. Falling quite short of even the modest objectives they set out to achieve.

Well there are promotion for this playlist on their facebook, twitter pages, so i guess thats how the word is spread, as for the structure and the way they chose to inform these newcomers, i cannot tell you it is effective or not since i knew all of the things they mentioned, the only way to know is to show this series to a total newbie and ask their opinion after that
