1. Build a settler, plant it kinda close to your capitol, but far enough away to claim alot of land.
2. build a 2nd settler, claim land in the other direction with it.
(Its great if u settle on marble, stone, a plains hill or an elephant on plains ;) )
3. Build stonehenge
4. Build the oracle, get aestetics with your free tech for the wonders
5. Build the temple of artemis or the pyramids
6. Get meditation if u have gold for the religion thing
7. Go for literature and build the great library,
8. Build the heroic epic in your capitol/wonder city
9. Keep settling the great people in your wonder city for production and science Pwnage :D

When u think u have a military edge, make lots of troops and go take out an easy neighbour for more land.. settle ALL the great generals as military instructors in your wonder city.. hehe.., 5 great generals made me make 17 XP troops out of the box :D (imperialistic + industrious = teh Cheeze ) ;)

etc etc.. if you want, go for cultural victory if you built some of the wonders in border towns for culture.. if not.. go domination or space race :) Or if your a skilled diplomat, go for the diplo win.

OR.. if you have warmongers as neighbours (monty, isabella, boudica, etc) make preatorians and take them out before starting the wonders :)

Dont over expand! Its about the wonders and the tech, as long as u survive your super wonder city will make an amazing army four you to take land with.

:goodjob:

I just used this strategy to get a cultural win on Emperor, but I might as well have made it domination if I didnt wanna end it fast :) Settings: normal settings, small map, 4 opponents, normal game speed :king:

Good luck!! :crazyeye: :D  :)

Forgive me for saying so, but it sounds like a strange strategy for Augustus, since it completely ignores the fact that he has the best UU in the game. I'm not saying it won't work, it's just the strangest Rome strat I've ever come across.

My own strategy with Rome (Julius or Augustus):
  1. Research Bronze Working
  2. Build a Warrior (timed to finish when Rome grows to 2 pop)
  3. Build a Worker
  4. Research the Wheel
  5. Build/chop/whip a Settler
  6. Research Iron Working
  7. Settle next to Iron
  8. Build/chop/whip another Warrior/Settler combo for a 3rd city, claiming a good commerce/happy resource like gold, silver, or gems if possible
  9. Build/chop/whip barracks and Praetorians
  10. Go out and kill things. :hammer: :goodjob:

With that thread title I expected a post akin to "build Praetorians, make other civs extinct". I think you might be making winning with Augustus more difficult than it needs to be.

Indeed, although I think I know where this strategy comes from: trying to take advantage of the combination of the new Augustus industrious trait and his UB (+25% GPP), hoping to create a quasi-ind/phi leader. But IMHO what makes ind/phi so attractive in theory is the potential Oracle-metalcasting-forge-Great Pyramid gambit, and you won't get this using this strategy. The 25% GPP bonus is really no big deal to me. In fact, I think this strategy may fit de Gaulle better. Stonehenge is the best wonder for his trait combo (ind/cha) to start with. Then get a couple of great priests (and religions) and go for cultural win. The salon will help.

And putting so much emphasis on building wonders in early game on emperor level.... I seriously don't know how often this works.
