how will you handle the alien crossfire factions?

If you were to choose a faction like the cyborgs or the data angels, who started out as part of other factions, would you start as that faction at the beginning of the game or would you be forced to do an accelerated start 100 years after the beginning?

I never played the expansion so I don't know how the breakaways were originally handled.

Also, will the progenitors be playable and will they still have their special victory conditions?

There wasn't, it was just the story. In SMAX, you just picked the seven factions you wanted to have in the game at the start of the game - there was a seven factions limit, so you never could have all factions in play at once. Once Planetfall includes that, it would be sort of the première for that! The only thing was that, IIRC, alien factions started 3 turns later.

As far as I know, the plan for Planetfall is to make these "real" breakaways, i.e. the expansion factions would start mid-game - so to play them, you'd need to do an accelerated start or at least start in a later era than arrival.

The aliens are intended to come in later in the game to mix up things - but I don't know whether they will be playable or not, but perhaps Maniac will drop in later and expand on this (it's his mod, after all! ;) ).

Cheers, LT.

For the "breakaway" factions, perhaps it could work like Fall from Heaven 2? An event or something triggers mid-game giving you the option to abandon your own faction and join one of the break-aways?

You could do the same for the aliens, I guess, or make a scenario where you start as the aliens and fight the other factions, much like the Barbarians! scenario from Warlords (except better).
