Huns within 16 tiles? = restart

Started a game yesterday and, not the Huns, but Genghis was very close. 15-20 tiles away, didn't count. Also did not recall the turn he DOWd me but it was ridiculously early. All he had were arrows and hatchets, which is all I had, so I could only hold him off until he retreated. Then we got spearmen, then he plopped down two cities closer to mine, then we got catapults, then I took one of his cities, then I said - screw this, I can get nothing done and started a new game. Love being a warmonger but not right off the bat.

I actually started ~15 hexes from them in my current game and because I expected the obvious rush I beelined to the Byzantine horse UU and one of them and an archer managed to completely wipe out 7 or 8 of his units. I ended up getting a GG in the process and used it to plant 2 hexes from his expansion and farmed exp on my archer to get logistics and range. I love the new citadels!

I've only encountered the Huns once so far and they seemed to neglect infrastructure and although they had a big army for the era, they were relatively weak units, so were easy to fend off and then counter-attack.

Genghis isn't one of the game's biggest warmongers - his MO is to attack city-states to try and win diplo victory through conquest. He's also a reliable ally if you can make friends with him (though he's not too easy to impress). He usually comes into his own a lot later than Attila, Alexander, Monty or Augustus, who are the ones to look out for early. So you were just unlucky with that experience, I think.

But I lost agains Dido's war elefant rush in immortal.
I had only archers, as she attacked with warriors an archers first, and when I counterattacked she appeared with 5 elephant, GG :)

I, too, find Didos elephants to be harder to defend against than anything the Huns can throw at me.

As far as the aggressiveness goes I find Atila to be less aggressive than Alex or Monty, or even Dido as she seems be after my blood every game I start near her.
