Ha, this is what makes sims like Civ so great. They are so complex you never know what will happen, and you can almost justify it via some analogy. E.g., "That bug is just a civil war as the government goes to war against a formal ally, and the populace rebels against the government"

In all seriousness thought the revolutions mod for Civ4 was one of the best mods in terms of core dynamics, and although this example here was a bug I can't wait until the modders do their magic to get a dynamic like that back again...

LOL at the thought of a huge AI civ going at war with itself, it will probably try to negotiate piece with itself and refuse it. It won't end until some outside Civ interferes (Just like IRL LOL)

I just had this too. Egypt was allied with Hanoi and at war with arabia. Arabia became Hanois Ally and Egypt/Hanoi declared war on Egypt/Hanoi. (followed by Egypt taking over Thebes from Egypt).

ONE BIG CIVIL WAR.

i had a similar issue with TSL earth map.

i was allied with hanoi, but somehow hanoi was on a team with ghandi. when i declared on india i was also at war with hanoi.

a few turns later they gifted me a scout which automatically conquered the city (seems gifted units spawn in the city tile).
